Got an idea lately..

so i thought it would be kinda cool if samus did something like megaman X when he wall jumps.
like do a slide before jumping.

first, it would only activate if you held down the jump button. then samus would kinda 'grab' the wall and slowly slide down the wall.
(she'd stay in the wall jump frame like when doing grapple beam wall jumps)
then, after you let go of the jump button, samus would do a normal wall jump.
btw, smoke trails get +20 internets

let me know if you guys like this. i'd love to see someone attempt to make it happen!

Since one of the biggest problems people have playing hacks is regular wall-jumping, I was thinking that it might be possible to alter it so that when Samus somersaults toward a wall, she automatically enters the wall-jump frame, and slides down, like Megaman does, enabling the player to wall-jump at any time.

I suspect this could be done using BTS, but having to place them everywhere that you can wall-jump could be a pain.

that sounds like a great idea quietus!
:heheh:

oh wow did i really do that?
/facepalm

i'm such a fool.

Diffusion Beam.

I'm almost positive Ice Missiles have already been done, and I started thinking Diffusion Missiles could be done if you made it so that when a missile strikes a surface, it explodes like a power bomb, but the only effect is that it covers ever enemy on the screen in ice. And does the standard missile damage. But it looks like this has already been done.

So I was thinking Diffusion Beam might be cool. It does what charge beam does, but when the charged shot strikes an enemy, the enemy takes charge damage, and then four (maybe more) normal shots are spawned from the point of collision and go in different directions and (hopefully) hit other enemies. The diffusion beam would, of course, replace the charge beam

I think shadow is closer to that than anyone with his experiments on SBAs

It's actually not hard if you have the right resources.  I used Black Falcon's EnemyBoom.asm as a starting point (good hijacks) and had it run the same routine that I use for the charged super combos in my hack, so they go off when they hit an enemy as well as just when they hit walls.  I'll probably make another video showing all kinds of nifty stuff once I finish remaking beams (maybe with new sounds) and try my hand at making a ledge-graby-wall-slidy-single-issue-walljump (complete with dust clouds while sliding down a wall).

I think I have the projectile routines disassembled. Basically you could just check for when the projectile is deleted, and then spawn the sba or whatever you planned to do after that

Know what would be nice? A Left 4 Dead/Alien Swarm sourcemod which would be a TC of Zombies Ate My Neighbours, with everything slightly updated and the option to play in first person L4D-style as well as top-down AS-style. I just need to find people who'd want to make that.

The many enemies and arcade-style feel would work out great, and you could make mock-up horror/thriller movie posters for EVERY level.

Phazos: True Phazon deity

I have this idea knocking my brain around like a punching bag at a golden gloves boxing ring.

Titel:
Super Metroid: CHAOS

Stroy: I had been evading the Federation for many years since the BSL incident. During my time of fleeing I did not know what was going to happen next. That is until I wound up getting hit by some kind of dark energy weapon... (image)
When I awoke I noticed that I was in a completely different place and world it seemed. I had been transported to a realm or uncharted planet that seemed to have fused the places of all my past missions into one place. (image)
I was unsure if I was going to be able to survive this world or not. Somehow I had to get back out of this place alive.

Details:

Adding in bosses from ALL the metroid games. ZM, Prime, hunters, echoes, corruption, RoS, SM, Other M, and Fusion *maybe even add in some new ones*

New music to every area but HD styled and maybe a few remixes. like for an iced over section of Maridia the Sea floor Maridia theme playing but with an icy feel to it (like adding in the bg tone from Sector 5)

Beam modification: Triple threat. Meaning: no stacking but stacking. certain beam combinations will stack while others won't but be wise with the way you do it. (example: Ice, Plasma, and Dark) (example2: Light, Plasma, Wave) (Annihilator, Plasma, Wave, and Ice *too much power*)

Each and every area of the game has a theme based around it. the over world would be themed around Tallon Overworld where as a few section of Norfair would be a combination of ZM and SM norfair and Magmoor caverns.

Puzzles GOT TO HAVE puzzles: Grapple, boost ball, spider ball, and many more. Boost ball spinners, SPider Ball tracks (certain walls climbable), Grapple (charge up certain machines to continue on) Bomb slots, and so much more.

Over All the world is chaos and the various actions in the game will open up new paths, close old ones, and reveal more and more of the mystery that this world really is. Each boss you defeat that sets off a destruct timer will cause planetary changes. Opening new paths and closing old ones.

Example: Mother Brain (ZM) blowing up a section of Zebes would cause various sections to change slightly. Robot Ridley exploding would cause a large section of the world to change. the Phazon Leviathan Guardians getting killed setting off a destruct timer would cause parts of the world to change. Final boss being a four enemy threat.

Omega Metroid is first in the boss gauntlet of the final area, Then Emporer Ing (3 forms), next is Mother Brain (SM), and lastly when you think you are going to escape the pits of hell of the planet... DARK SAMUS.

Not sure but I know this... THIS HACK WILL TAKE YEARS!!! but taking and combining SM with ZM and Fusion and adding in the bosses from them would prolly work well enough anyways without all the extra stuff to take up several gigs of data on one comp.

FullOfFail

Phazos: It wouldn't be practical to hack SM for all of that. I mean, if you're extremely good at ASM and making sprites/gfx, you could do it, but it'd be much easier to write a separate program for it at that point. Maybe build a engine close to Super Metroid's, and work from there.

People already have done alot of what you mentioned individually (spider-ball, light-beam, etc) but the amount of content this would demand is just too much for one hacker.

-Big post of Shit That Will Never Happen-
Ignoring that you seem to have a clusterfuck on your hands, I highly recommend you never try to do this in Super Metroid. Ever. Seriously, go program your own Metroid fangame. Use Gamemaker or something, just don't use Super Metroid.

All that made me really want this to succeed - if anything I think you should take some clues from the various 2D games on the platform already to just get a feel for "porting" it? Good examples are Kirby 64, Mortal Kombat Mythologies ( not a great game in its own right but there are a few levels where you have to backtrack, rudimentary yes, but backtracking nonetheless ) and Goemon's Great Adventure!

Then again I'm not a developer nor am I programmer so I don't exactly how this would be accomplished but, well, there's my suggestion!

zephyrtronium

All these advantages the N64 has over the SNES are advantages the Gamecube has over the N64 and the Wii has over the Gamecube. If you're going to port SM to something, why not WiiU?

Scyzer

So basically, you have no experience at all in programming, and want other people to do all the work while you get the credit because you "posted the idea"?

This will not happen. It will never happen with you unless you actually get some experience. No one wants to join a project that has nothing going for it.

Zhs2

Merged this to general ideas because that's all it is. You can make a thread for it if it ever kicks off the ground, though. (Good luck!)

What Scyzer is saying is that people join projects that they like the look of, with goals that they feel are achievable.  At the moment, you have nothing but ideas.  Until you get something started, nobody is going to jump in and help.  That's just the way it's always been.  Even on MetConst, we've had people with new projects asking for help, and getting nowhere, yet people who are almost finished with their project, and are just asking for assistance with one small thing or anoither, get the help they request.
