[SM] How to make the Crocomire fight shorter?

A while back, I asked whether there is a Crocomire disassembly. In fact, I am trying to shorten his fight. There are two ideas I have: A) Increase the amount he backs up at one time; B) Give him less room before dropping him in the lava.

A) I have no idea how to do. I believe he reacts differently to different weapons as well...
B) I tried, following the boss manual to lower the distance he moves before dropping. Didn't work, though I can *increase* it well enough. Lowering it just makes him drop at the usual place.
