About a week and a half ago I decided to rewrite the into to the game to make it worth reading through. I hope that it is entertaining!

So that's why we don't get to keep our upgrades, friggin astroids.

MetroidNerd#9001

I feel like I'm running out of things to say...

Maridia is almost done! After that, it's off to Tourian! I messed up a bit in nuance type stuff, especially with Plasma not appearing at the end of Part 8. I will be absolutely sure to fix that. By the way, here's parts 7 and 8: Enjoy!

Part 7

I am proud to announce that my hack is complete! Almost! I still have a lot of polish (and 2 more rooms to) to finish, but I think it's high time I released a Beta version of this hack for play testing. I had a few people tell me specifically that they wanted to play test the hack, and I will contact them individually. Anybody else is more that welcome to test out the hack on two conditions.

1. Don't expect it to be a polished hack, it is just a Beta and this is my first hack.

2. Please tell me of any and all critiques you have of the hack either through a PM, or just posting on this thread. Screenshots to accompany help a lot too. This includes nitpicks, permastucks, crashes, and anything in between. Tell me everything you think of it. I want as much feedback as possible so I can make this hack much better for the full release.

Any help any of y'all could give would be great! Thanks!

Edit: I found something while trying to record my next video for my channel, so I am updating the IPS.
Edit #2: I have updated the Beta IPS with feedback given from playtesters thus far, and from my own playthrough of the game.

Sweet! Sadly I do not have time to play this hack at the moment as I am working on something that will take up all of my Super Metroid time. However, once it is done this is the next on my list!

piush

I'm testing your hack , MetroidNerd@9001 . Sent you pm .

MetroidNerd#9001

I'm going to go ahead and show the video I made as the Finale to my videos to my hack. I guess it Shows off Tourian for those who are not able to Playtest. Anybody who can playtest, however, your help would be greatly appreciated, Version 0.92 is up for testing in an above post.

Nice, I'll check out the new one. Tried the previous one recently, the way you made the progression so roundabout was really cool if somewhat challenging. I applaud having the Spring Ball early on, as that makes sense to me. Why did Nintendo put it so late in the game instead of early on?

Ben Plus!

I just downloaded the IPS. Can't wait for the finished product!

MetroidNerd#9001

Thank you to everybody who has downloaded my hack for Beta testing. I appreciate y'all taking your time to see my work and help me make it better. Thank you to everybody who has sent me critiques especially. I decent amount of people have downloaded the hack, but only a couple have sent me their comments. I just wanted to remind anyone playing it to be writing any comments they have and sending them to me. Please scrutinize every detail of my hack to find potential improvements. I want as many people as possible to comment to get a wide variety of points of view on what I can improve. Thank you for your time.

maybe I am just having problems figuring it out, but where do I go after I get morph ball?

I found a breakable block, but it seems to lead nowhere, and I can't seem to get to bombs missiles and the only way back to Tourian is through a missile door...

MetroidNerd#9001

You continue on through red Brinstar after you get morph ball. If you're talking about at the top of the red tower, morph through the shot block to fall below to the rest of the shaft. Go from there. I'll see if I can release 0.93 tomorrow to hopefully make things a bit more friendly.

Quietus

I gave this a quick try, just to see what was up, and I too couldn't seem to pass that shot block area. I could roll through it, and just off the edge of the screen, but never dropped down.

MetroidNerd#9001

I think I know what happened. I re-tiled over the platform you morph on so it wouldn't be vertically flipped, and I did not notice until after I had sent out the patch that it made the tiles solid. That, among other things are fixed in this next version. This version also has minor graphical changes in Red Brinstar, as well as increased friendliness towards people who go into areas without hi jump. Less wall jumping is required, and areas where mid air morphing would be required near the beginning have been tweaked to not require mid air morphing. Apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you for letting me know. I hope you enjoy the rest of the hack.

Only 2 issues I really found in this game design wise.

-For whatever reason, in the starting fight when Ridley is escaping the entire room disappears except for him, Samus, and the door you entered.

-There are some grapple points that need to be flattened out as they cause Samus to do a wall grapple, and it can cause players to get stuck in the walls (happened to me twice, but I make a lot of save states).

As for the what I personally thought about the hack, it's pretty well done overall.

Pretty difficult in some spots, a bit confusing at times, but I still thoroughly enjoyed.

With some polish I would happily give this hack a 4.5/5.

MetroidNerd#9001

Thank you so much for your feedback! It is greatly appreciated. On your second point, could you sent me screenshots of where you are getting stuck in walls? I can think of one location off of the top of my head, the room two rooms before hi-jump, but I can't think of any others right now. Thanks.

On the first point, I noticed it a while back, but haven't done anything about it yet. After I get back from my trip I will file compare to try to fix it. I'm glad you enjoyed the hack, I hope it felt nonlinear; I have even found some parts to be a bit tough, so the difficulty will probably be Veteran once I release it. Thank you again for Beta Testing.

SonowRaevius

For some reason my computer is being derpy and not letting me screenshot the emulation.

I can tell you where the spot I am talking about is at least.

The first door going out the back of the wrecked ship towards Maridia there is a spot that has 3 grapple nodes, with the only way to get to the next platform being to use one of the three and be drawn up as close to the grapple nodes as possible. Using the middle one works fine, but the other two on either side will cause Samus to go into a wall jump pose which will result in her either falling out of the wall after releasing the grapple button or becoming permanently stuck.

MetroidNerd#9001

I'm sorry it took a few extra days to release this next version, but I refined the escape to make it more unique and open ended. I have done a bit more polishing and fixed a few of the problems mentioned. If anything else goes wrong, tell me and I will fix it. Thank all of you for taking the time to playtest my hack. I appreciate every comment y'all give me as it helps me to improve the hack for when I will finally fully release it. I think I'll keep up the Betas until I get to version 0.98, then I'll put version 0.99 on the Completed Stuff board as the Final Beta. Once that has been done, and I find the hack to be sufficiently polished, I will release it on the Main Site, but that is a ways away.

Been making my way through this.   Started out pretty agnostic about it but it gets better as you go.   Norfair in particular seems quite well done.   Just went through what I'll call "faux" LN for now.   You like ninja pirates too much.

Thank you for taking the time to playtest the hack. I'm glad you are liking it so far. Do you have any suggestions on how to make the beginning more catching to players, or do you think it's fine as it is?

Are you referring to the bottom left area near down the elevator after Crocomire, or the top left area where bubble mountain is? Just curious.

Is it to the point where it feels annoying to see them in lots of places, or are they fine the way they are?

Either way thank you for the critiques. I'm working on version 0.95 and will try to take any suggestions into account if any of y'all give me any.

DonnyDonovan

I'm almost done.   I'll share some broader thoughts as soon as I finish.   Pretty fun game.  There's a room in Maridia that breaks once you exit and enter again, at least in the version of ZSNES I'm using.   It's in the far northwest corner, the room on the way to the yellowish room with the insect things where you drop down and get a missile pack.  I think you can only get there post-gravity suit.   The other bit of bugginess is that the scrolling often lags behind a fair bit.

Can't find a way to the top of what was the turtle room in Maridia without a super short charge, which I can't do.   I think my totals right now are all items, 205 missiles (would be 210 without the glitched room), 9ET, 4RT, 45SM and 30PB.

MetroidNerd#9001

Samus retains her speed after jumping thanks to a hex tweak I implemented a while back. You use it to jump over the spike pit to keep running until you get a speed boost. Then you can Shinespark.

DonnyDonovan

Yeah I figured that out shortly after posting.  Meant to edit.   Thanks.   That's a helpful feature, and I pretty much can't stand playing a hack without respin at this point, so I'm glad you added that as well.

MetroidNerd#9001

There are now a few more minor changes and a couple of major changes made. I hope y'all enjoy! Keep comments coming in so I can make any more necessary changes.
