Been quite awhile, I hardly get around to anything anymore.

Anyway, I think this is the right forum for this, just in case anyone here is interested and hasn't heard about this.

Just wanted to drop some news here about the game Mages of Mystralia, whose kickstarter ends in about 4 hours at 10:59AM CDT today (4-15-17). It's a very great looking game by Borealys Games with work from Ed Greenwood (creator of Forgotten Realms fantasy world) to create the world, lore, and story, and music by Shota Nakama (Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 2.5HD remaster, creator of the VideoGame Orchestra).

This game was already essentially in a complete state, but they decided to launch a kickstarter campaign to add more content and make it an even more polished and filled out game.  Has a very unique magic casting system that lets you create your own spell combinations, and has been compared to games like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

If you're interested in backing them, now's the time.  They also have a physical Limited Run PS4 copy of the game that you can get through this kickstarter as well, among a lot of other collectible items if you're a game collector.  Most of the physical items can be added on separately if all you want is those.

Here's where to go if you're interested in checking them out:

Also, if you feel like it, you can also check out and "Like" their game and dev team pages and subscribe to their youtube channel for news (easy as clicking a link then a button, no commitment required), and it also unlocks their community goals (see pic in spoiler).  They're trying to get 2 more to unlock the digital Zia wallpaper.  You can check those out here:

As someone who was previously let down by Comcept and Mighty No. 9, I almost walked away from kickstarter projects forever, but this game and another called Battle Princess Madelyn (a Super Ghosts and Ghouls series homage) actually look like really excellent games.  They also have demo gameplay if you wish to check them out.

Great timing on this post! Plenty of time for people to wake up after going to bed at 4am and fund tha-- wait....

There was a lot of silly camera work in that video, the game seems ok tho.  For a game that sounds as impressive as they are trying to make it sound, and that is practically done, they didn't show off an awful lot of different spell combinations, just the same few ones again and again. And OHMAN they got the guy who wrote music for FINALFANTASYFIFTEEN /AND/ KINGDOMHEARTSTWOPOINTFIVEHIGHDEFINITIONREMIX !? That guy is a legend! I totally remember any of his songs, at all, even a little bit. So excited for that. Furthermore, for hyping up Ed Greenwood crafting the lore, they didn't mention much of it, I barely even know the premise. You play some girl who just found out she can cast magic and enter into some magical place! How generic sounding.

It did a pretty poor job at getting me interested in the game, but there is plenty of potential in there, don't get me wrong. We shall see if it can live up to itself though, as you mentioned previously a few games on Kickstarter have REALLY disappointed, but there have been several that have been amazing too. It's hit and miss as hell, but if you have the money, and like the idea of risking it to funding unfinished games, Kickstarter is pcul.

It was 7 AM here, not everyone goes to bed that late. It's still daytime for 2/3 of the rest of the world. I could either post about it or not.

There's better videos than the short little spellcrafting ones on their channel:

Backing a kickstarter is indeed hit or miss, just like any investment. So is buying a game you never heard of before, especially non-refundable digital ones, all you can go by is what you see and hear around. It's up to you if you're interested or not, but I posted this in case anyone might be interested. The difference with this one is that they actually had most of this game already built before holding a kickstarter to make it even better, and it was shown off last year. So you actually have some content to base your decision off of rather than just being promised a game before there's anything but concept stuff and promises of what it'll be like, like the Mighty No. 9 travesty.

Personally, I don't keep up with who Ed Greenwood is, or know many composers, all I know is that the world design looks really good and he's apperently well known in the DnD world, and the soundtrack so far sounds good, too (you can hear some tracks on the kickstarter and soundcloud). I like the spellcrafting, but hope the game is more challenging and has some spells balanced a bit more before the final release... though my views are only based off seeing the first area and sandbox mode.  it might actually be more challenging and have more need of really powerful spells later.  They are adding hardcore modes to this as well, but we'll see how that works out.  Like I said, it's an investment.  I do know that Limited Run Games usually only releases games that are rated well among their followers.

But yeah, it's up to you what you feel about it.  It didn't come to mind to mention here till last night, but I couldn't keep my eyes open due to exhaustion.

Nah, I was just giving you a hard time mate, metconst isn't very active early in the morning, #imnotfunny.

I'm actually more reminded of Gauntlet then Zelda, (more so Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, since that's the only one I've played) given the camera angle, and style of play. Not a big fan of how you absorb hearts even if you are at full health. The art style is alright, though a bit too cartoon-y.

I'll probably end up forgetting to remember to keep an eye out for this (as I typically do with games), but if it's good, I'm sure I'll hear about it again, and give it a go.

Don't worry about it.  I don't get into many games lately due to all my other worries.  I have a very personal one that kinda keeps me from getting into games, but I do still look out for stuff, being a collector.

The team says this isn't the final version, and I'm sure they'll be open to suggestions.  They hit their final stretch goal, though, so they ended up hitting their previous final goal, then also hitting the 3 extra goals they added for the final few days, pretty good.  Now to hope the game turns out as good as it looks so far.
