It could definitely be a case like Prime 2D, where the joke is that it's not a joke. Could also be an attempt to fly under the copyright radar, same with calling it 'Super Monstrosity' instead of Metroid. Could also be a prank, though it would be a shame since a 1:1 Super recreation in that engine or BootEngine would be super hot.
