I need some design ideas

I cant seem to get out of this rut im in. im making a m1/sm hybrid game  and while it will have all the rooms from the first metroid i want to make crateria wrecked ship and maridia look like they belong in nestroid but i keep getting flack for the rooms looking like crap cause of repeating tiles. thats what m1 was!! so im fresh oout of ideas  and im losing interest! so if anyone has ideas on how i can make some great looking nestroid rooms let me know!  I will credit you on my game!!
