Not sure why there's a [1] next to my profile tab, anyone know what that's about?  :?:

It's because you were mentioned. The "@"username thing does that.

The part that's particularly non-obvious is how to get rid of the [1]:  go to your profile page, hover over the "Profile Info" tab, and click on "Mentions".

Yes, the Mentions plugin could have been a bit more obvious. You'd think the mention would go away if you just visit the page you got mentioned on, but oh well.
