This is for the mac os x, zsnes is capable of running most SM hacks.
You didn't specify which mac os you have currently, please tell us your os version.

I am running openemu right now but when I download a hack file it won't open it...

Things may be different on a Mac, but if it's anything like on a PC, you don't 'open' them. You use them in conjunction with the ROM. You should have an emulator, the ROM, and the .ips file. You'll need to apply the .ips file to the ROM (or give them the same name, and have them in the same folder), then open the new, modified ROM in the emulator. The ROM you need to use is "Super Metroid (JU) [!]", and should be unheadered (3072KB), not headered (3073KB). Unless you're trying to play one of Digital Mantra's hacks, which require a headered ROM.

I downloaded a Hack and am trying to figure out which patcher to use. I have mack os El captain any suggestions?

If you read the page that thedopefish linked you to, you will have the answer you need, as it provides information on both soft and hard patching, as well as numerous links for programs that will patch it for you. :neutral:

I read it, I have no way to extract it on the mac..... Lol dang macs......

Perhaps if you provided us with some more information, we could better help you.

I've checked thedopefish's link, and one of the programs it mentions is uCON64, which is a .gz file. I've looked online, and it tells me that on macs, the OS should open this automatically with no additional programs. You can then use the program you extract to apply the .ips patch to the ROM you downloaded.

If you want anything more, please provide details on exactly what you are doing / have done, and exactly what isn't working. Unfortunately, just saying "I have no way to extract it" doesn't help.

1.extract the ips patch to a folder.

2.run the multipatch, browse to the folder containing.ips

3.Copy a clean untouched super metroid rom to the folder then patch it.
