Super Metroid: Arrival [v1.11]

Arrival is Samus' last stand against the Federal Government and the planet SR-319. This is where the Metroids once inhabited, until they became "extinct". Though, as Samus dives deep into the planet to seek safety, she finds that not all is as it seems.

Enemies get Stronger.
The World is Creepier.
Life is Tougher.

This is a Hack created by Jefe962. Named Super Metroid Arrival, it includes a Physics overhaul, Strange new Palettes, Different Tilesets, Interesting Chozo Key schematics, and loads more!

Sadly, JAM has not replied to any of my messages, so I have regarded him as inactive. Here is the hack in its "finished" state. There is no custom HUD, because the patch for it only works on ZSNES, and every other emulator causes a strange flicker. (If enough people want the special HUD for a ZSNES version, then I may let it see the light.)
Also, begrimed may be doing some small changes to this, involving enemy placement and such. If you want to wait for that, then I doubt it'd be long.
100% includes:

100 Missiles
20 Super Missiles
30 Power Bombs
6 E-Tanks
4 Chozo Keys (Reserve Tanks)
Beams: Charge, Spazer, Wave, Ice, Plasma - And the all new Spazer/Plasma by JAM! (Not a Separate Item, however.)
Suits: Varia and Gravity
Suit items: Morph, Bombs, Spring Ball, Screw Attack
Boot items: Wall-Jump, Hi-Jump, Speed Booster, Space Jump

JAM - Major changes and fixes
begrimed - Major changes and fixes
Scyzer - patches
Black_Falcon - patches
Jordan5 - Beta testing
Kte - Beta testing
Person701 - Beta testing
Some IRL friends - Beta testing
Everyone - For being a good community and slapping me into shape when I needed to hack!
How different is this version from fixt .4?

This version is a much more solid build. There is a lot more balance in the game overall, and there are new features that were not in the 0.4 edition, such as map edits.
There are also changes to items here and there, and bugs have been fixed, such as Ninja pirates being horrible to me and fixes to item collection. Also, some tiles, effects and FX1 have been edited, to make the atmosphere in the hack feel better.
tl;dr: Improvements on the plus side.

I think it'd be better to do a full playthrough again, just to retrieve a better feel for the game.  :^_^:

Sounds cool, I can't wait for it!

Steel Sparkle

Thanks :3
I will get it up as soon as i can

Been playing this, and one thing that has stuck out so far is some of the enemy damage. Those spike snail's do one tank of damage, and killed me once or twice, and the side hopper room next to the ice beam room is evil. I'm also recording as I go along, so videos soon

Those damage ratios are to make the player move in a certain direction, and get certain items that decreases the damage. :D

Alright, I see. Found a game breaking bug. Not sure if it has only happened to me, but the elevator from Walrus to the Fever Swamp which you then go to the the underwater place with Frigate music is broken. Everything appears in the wrong place. I feel it's a big enough bug to fix as it might break the expericece of someone who doesn't know how to fix it.

I actually came across something similar when i went to get the Varia. It just made things appear in the wrong place and saving and reloading fixed it but it should be fixed. Did i patch the rom wrong? Is it cuz im using SNESX9 1.53?

PonchGaming

I don't know, happened to me to, and I'm using Higan. Maybe Mr. Jefe did something wrong with the elevator  :?:

Jiffy

Damn, some last second patch caused this.
There are a few things I'd like to fix anyway, so I may push out a patch tonight.

After fully playing through the game again that seems to be the only bug i came across. It's nothing huge but it's nice to know it's gonna be fixed. Anyways the video is up so whenever you wanna watch it Jefe

Nice! I'll be looking tonight.
In other news, v1.01 includes a fixed elevator room, and a few changes here and there, after watching Alukraid suffer badly.  :^_^:

Ishtar

So after a playtrough from this hack i must say i like it.

There was some nice changes
(Botwon only killable with normal Missiles)

Acid in GT room

Only 1 thing bugged me.
How many Energietanks and Missiles are there?
You have written that this hack contains 6E Tanks and 100 Missiles but i have found 8E Tanks and 180Missiles

Yeah, I copied/pasted the info from the Beta page, and since then, the items have been changed. After not touching Arrival for a while, I'm trying to do a 100% run and find out how many there are

Steel Sparkle

There are enough E-tanks to fill the first row. so 9.

I've played a lot of hacks here on Metroid Construction, and I have to say, this one was one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the fact that the size of the world wasn't over the top; it was manageable to explore without feeling completely lost in. I thought the palettes in Warlus and Fever Swamp were pleasing to the eye as well.

If I could make any criticism, it would be the custom music in Warlus and the green hue area.  The tune in Warlus wasn't bad, however I felt like it didn't match the pacing of the gameplay in that area. As for the green hue area, the instruments used were rather ear piercing and distracting. But that's just nitpicking.

Overall, I finished with a 96% completion rate and a completion time of around 2:40.

Keep up the good work, I'm eager to see what you can come up with next  :^_^:.

Glad you enjoyed playing it!
I want to push out a fix for some item changing, layout changes and overall balances. But I need to find some bugs to give the patch a little reason, so go find some bugs!  :yay:

Um quick question. Is the planet SR-319 or SR-62? I'm a little confused. Either ways, this was a pretty good hack! Wonder what will come out of you next? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Edit: So uh, was grappling the zoomer or whatever it is and got stuck outside. Now it impossible to get out

Does Higan not have a rewind feature? That's what I always use (in my emulator) if that happens.

Nope. Higan doesn't have rewind or anything. It has save states, but I'm trying to do a no save stating or anything run.

Quietus

Ah, fair enough. It's not so bad if it's self-inflicted, but that time that you're just using grapple to grab a super or healthdrop, but you accidentally snag an enemy: :evilno:

What a pleasant surprise, this version! I've played fixt 0.4 before and loved it so I definitely need to try this one as well.
