Your instructions are not that clear. Extract what to where? There's a MapBuffer.buf file sitting in the Settings folder. Do I have to move that somewhere? Do I need to download part of your source code? Do I need to do something ingame to get this map buffer file to work? Telling us to just "Extract" isn't very helpful.

Yeah, is your map buffer file empty? I downloaded the zip and mine works fine.
If it still keeps failing, go to appdata/local/MEngineOld and copy all of the external files into it as such:



We wouldn't be having all these problems if YYG didn't fuck Game Maker in the ass with a dragon-sized dildo in regards to file management. Sandboxing can rot in hell... We can't even have mod packs anymore like in Metroid: Confrontation. Fuck YYG.

The MapBuffer file was 108KB straight out of the zip so I assume it wasn't empty. I took a look in the Appdata\Local\MEngineOld\Settings folder and it was not in there. I copied the map buffer file over into that folder but there appears to be no change when running the program. I still get a black screen when changing rooms.

In your video, it loads up the language file just fine.
But the map buffer file, oh that one's just magically inaccessible.

In GM:S, load up the project and "save as" under a different name. It solves the external file problem.

Rename it...


And press F5 to run it.

Yeah, on new game that's the room that comes right after rTitle.
You gotta put rCave2 after rTitle, instead of rCave6.
Order them properly in the rooms resource folder.

in load_default (or load_defaults)
near the end of the script, you'll see instance_create(value,value,oPlayer)

Change both values to like, 100 or something. She'll spawn within the room.

I know it's a big ask, but I wish people would stop doing this. Things like this take time...a lot of time
Physix would have made it perfectly clear if the project was dead/put to one side...but he hasn't. As far I know, most of the engine is pretty much done. Now it's just a case of working on graphics, and turning the engine into a full fledged game.

The engine is done. There's dying, saving, enemies, water, everything. Except for item pickups. I just need to break the ice and build an actual world, but I have no clue where to start. It's as if I have to tackle graphics and enemies and map layout all at the same time, and it all has to be high quality to remain consistent. I'm just one guy.  :nope:
