I'm trying to figure out why layer 1 is Transparent only on non background layer 2 tiles

what can I do to make one type of tile for both layer 1 and layer 2 = with no Transparent through layer 1

Quietus

We'll probably need some more information as to what it is you're trying to do. There shouldn't be any difficulty in working with transparency for the two layers, but it's not clear what you're trying to achieve, since it sounds like you want a non transparent tile in layer one, which would simply mean colouring it in, but I assume that's not what you want. :^_^:

ha it kind of is what I want. I cant figure out why layer 1 is see through!

All tilesets have a number of palettes available to them. If you open the original landing site, then click Tools > Graphics Editor, you will see a list of palettes in the top left-hand corner. The first 'colour' in each row is not actually a colour, and represents transparency. If you now look on the right-hand side, you will see all of the tiles available for this tileset. Click on the 4 at the top to have them display in their normal palette. Now, looking back to the left, you will see that the fourth palette down has that bright blue colour at the start - remember this means transparent because it's the first 'colour'! Now, back to the right - anywhere you see this blue colour means that it's transparent, so you'll actually see whatever is on layer 2 below.

To remove the transparency, you'd need to export the graphics, and edit them in something like Tile Layer Pro, so that each pixel uses one of the other 15 colours from the palette. Obviously, the same applies the other way. If you wish to add transparency to a tile, simply change the pixels to use the first colour in the palette. :^_^:

... OK that is what I need to know, thank you! Case closed.

Ok it was a rookie move! Layer 2 was in front of samus... and layer one was behind samus! wow

Quietus

Hehe, yeah, that can be a little weird at first, but if used correctly, it can create some cool effects. :^_^:
