Heyo! I'm here to show my WIP Metroid (NES) mod, Metroid: Extreme. (Working title)

This is a complete re-design of the original Metroid for the NES that adds a completely new map, some graphical changes, different palettes, new areas to explore, and secrets! I'll show a few screenshots for now, but more will be shown in the future!

For Samus's color palette, I couldn't decide which of these two to choose. So, I've created a poll so you can vote on which colors you prefer, just so people can be somewhat helpful to this project.

These are the two palettes:

A.

B.

Edaria
Here is the start of Metroid: Extreme. (May be altered in the future)

Vertical drops are so much fun!

   Which way do I go?
Dethar
Where am I?

   That water looks cold..

   Good job on terrain, creator!

   Where does this lead to?

   What could this be?
Just say A. or B. in a reply to choose!
You could just set up a poll for that, you know?

Don't know for anyone else, but the image links for me are broken (I'll edit this when screenies are back)

RetroNova10

I thought of that, but at first, I thought I had to create a new topic just for a poll. I'll do that now..

The images aren't showing up for me either.

PKstarship

Will there be any sort of new power-ups? I love it when hacks add new power-ups or abilities.

RetroNova10

There may be some graphical changes on certain powerups, but other than that, no. I don't have nearly the programming capabilities to do such things.

What's this for...?

PonchGaming

I think it's a example of how you would fix or do the pictures

Quietus

Yup. None of the content in your original post displays correctly, and Grimlock is just trying to help out. :^_^:

RetroNova10

That's what I thought - just wasn't sure. Thanks Grimlock.

No problem, I was a little rushed for time and was posting on my tablet.  I noticed your links directed to dropbox so a URL edit seemed the way to go.

It's good to see several new M1 projects in the works.  I started working on a graphics editing tutorial for you guys this evening.  I should be done with it tomorrow, hopefully it will inspire you guys to try creating some custom graphics for your hacks.

RetroNova10

Ooh - that'll be interesting. Maybe give me some more insight on graphics editing.. ;)

Well, Grimlock, that might be helpful even for me, to do a little bit of a graphical overhaul to my hack soon, I will have to read it! I think I would go for more of a space station-esque look for my hack, as its made to be a bit of a tower, so, maybe make it a space station in a tower-esque format. So, RetroNova, looking forward to seeing your hack complete! Also, Grimlock, I am still having trouble with vertical shafts, could you maybe PM me with more specific instructions and screenshots to how? Thanks if you can!

Grimlock

PM me D/L link and I'll have a look at it.

Thank you for your kind words! I work on it for 3 hours or so daily. Trying to make it quickly but still with quality. The first area is mostly done, just working on the second currently. Made some alternate vertical passage rooms with terrain chunks on the sides of the walls. Will be posting more screenies soon! The second area will have more detailed terrain. Although I don't want to get too detailed with the tiles and stuff because I still want that NEStroid feel. As if it were an NES sequel!

Interesting, I'm interested to see your hack complete, the screenshots look nice. Good luck RetroNova! I'm new to hacking Metroid myself, so, I get the whole feel.

Some more screenies are up!! Check 'em out! I also named some of the areas.

You should consider signing up for an image hosting site such as Photobucket:

Photobucket is full of ads and constantly spams you with pop ups but hey, it's free and it works.  Just save as a .PNG file and you can drag it onto the upload browser window and it'll upload.  As easy as it gets.  Dropbox is great for distributing files but not so good with images.

RetroNova10

Oh yeah, forgot about that site. Thanks! The images finally show up!

Hmm, I might have to try that one out...... Especially if I want to eventually get my hack completed....  :pale: wait......

RetroNova10

So I've tried placing a palette change "item" in a tunnel, and when I test it, It doesn't work at all. How do I use it?

Meeptroid

I honestly don't know Retro, I switched my hack to Super, but, I do have an idea for you if you can figure it out, maybe super-heated rooms in Norfair and Ridley's Lair, and it stops hurting you when you get Varia?

RetroNova10

How would I pull that off? Does the Varia suit in NESTroid make you immune to floor (Lava) damage?

[EDIT]

Oh, and to do the "palette switch" effect, I've just edited one "strip" of colors for what I want.

Meeptroid

No, but I am sure if you asked Snarfblam for some help, he has created Hurt Blocks, so maybe a bit of coding and that can happen?
