is it possible to make the game larger?

can i add more rooms? like say ceres didnt explode in my hack but crashed into zebes could i add a new area with multiple rooms or are there limitations. i know i have seen people remove the map rooms to add more changes, but is that the only way to expand the map?


lets say i want to make a hack that starts you off in sr-388 instead of ceres space station then u get sent to zebes and from zebes you have the original areas but then i add ceres space station with an elevator so u could go up and fight new enemies. i have a hack idea but sadly im overwhelmed by EVERYTHING at my disposal, and i would love to have someone point me to the right direction on how to go about doing this.

ill post my hack idea, and you guys tell me if its possible and easy for a noob to create

sr-388 where you see the metroid in the capsule with some simple enemies along the way and ridley does his same thing grab the capsule and fly away, the chase is on same amount of rooms as ceres space station just more linear with a few enemies

land on zebes north eastern corner an elevator going up to an abandoned ceres space station, it would be the same map as normal ceres with a few extra rooms also the area is taken over by plants and animals from brinstar (ideally this would be the first location which holds morph ball and charge) and the "boss" of the area which blocks your passage is a room with 2 spore spawn low health since you will be fighting with charge shots. after defeating this boss all of zebes awakens

bombs will be ideally in the same location, your first missle tank is in blue tourian under old mother brain tank spazer in the newly designed blue brinstar complete map overhaul aswell.

varia suit behind a kraid that is designed to be killed quickly, if he makes it up all the way you can still defeat him, but the spike traps and now increasing lava make it a bit too difficult for low skilled players.

wave beam will be received after beating phantoon aswell as the space jump.

i want to add a frozen area where its a room with a seemingly unlimited spawning pipe the trick to the room is to use the grapple beam found at some point after phantoon to reach ice beam, and power bombs to unlock the room you need to use the infinitely spawning enemies to freeze a walk way over a hallway of spikes to reach the power bomb then use the power bomb to kill the target enemy outside the map to unlock the door allowing you to exit

your first super missles (if you havent found them already lots of monsters play this game so i wouldnt be surprised) would ideally be in draygon the underwater portion of my hack. this area is completely do able without gravity suit, and you will recieve the suit after beating the green shrimp thing.

speed booster,spring ball, and high jump boots are scattered throughout the map not needed to complete the hack but necessary for a 100% run i want people to use IBJ and various wall jumping skills

ridley will be in norfair behind him is screw attack, plasma is needed for this are (which you will receive at some point in your adventure in norfair) all enemies will be un defeatable without plasma so avoiding all contact with enemies and exploring is a must. the ridley arena will be a tall room with spikes along the walls and a lava pit that continually rises and lowers throughout the fight to make this one a bit difficult (lets face it ridley is ALWAYS a pushover unless some maniac makes him vicious)

new tourian will be accessable at the start, but you cannot progress until you defeat the 4 major bosses (no golden statue room) i want this map to be hectic as if you arent supposed to be there and x-ray will be found here to help you progress through this new area. upon entering the new tourian you are greeted in a large room with 4 power bomb doors and a black door on the bottom each door leads to a hallway that mimics the boss that guarded it (example: top right room looks like brinstar with the enemies) at the end of the hall way will be another room that can only be opened if the boss was defeated and inside will be your 1st reserve tank, one reserve tank is in each of these rooms so 4 tanks in total. once you entered all 4 rooms and recieved all 4 tanks the main door will open. in this door you are immediately greeted with the ninja flipping pirates (i dont remember their names) you can stay and fight them, but its useless because the gray doors WILL NOT OPEN. you must escape using morphball and enter the x-ray room. once you find x-ray you will use this to map your way through all the tight corridors until you find the generator room which deactivates all the door locks, and deactivates the lazer cheerios that have been trying to erase you this whole time.

finally you can make your way to mother brain, but before that u meet the giant metroid like normal, except YOU CAN DIE if u let him eat u so skipping him is necessary (no metroids will be seen at this time since mother brain has them all in containment rooms that help generate the power needed for her tank.) did i mention the map will be dark, and you will need to use the x-ray to light your way and kill the pirates trying to stop you?

finally you reach mother brains hallway this room is powered by a secondary generator so the lazer cheerios and the little flesh walls still work, you make your way and fight this boss as normal.

the escape sequence is where shit gets real... you have 5 minutes to back track through a new route since the metroids were also powering ALL THE DOORS on zebes this new route will feature rocks that drop on you (since the planet is dying) and metroids that have broken free as well as pirates who were trying to expand tourian but couldnt quite finish the job, and crocomire... yes you must fight crocomire to escape. (if you found the speed booster this part is a cake walk since you could shinespark through a more direct route not noticeable unless you found the hidden map room in tourian, also this route is how u save the animals) using the non shinespark route the escape will take give or take 4 minutes and 27 seconds out of the 5 minutes. the shinespark route takes 1 minute to complete and takes you straight up through all the areas, and you will pop up out under your ship.(is it possible to disable hyper beam? i would want hyper beam to only be active to kill mother brain but immediately after the fight is over youre back to your normal gear)

fin thats it... it sounds easy like this but beginning this is close to impossible for me since i never done this before. i dont even care if someone takes the idea and makes their own hack using this its just an idea i had. kudos to the people who read this all the way through and i appreciate anyone who will help me get this done, i would even appreciate if someone took my idea and made their own sick ass hack  :grin:

Firstly, please do some basic research before spamming threads. There's a wealth of information in the Documents section, many of which will cover what you're asking. There's also a tonne of Patches already available, some of which will likely be useful.

There's also a thread for General Hack Ideas, rather than you creating a new topic.

I'll add that no code can be run beyond bank $BF , due to a hardware limitation . I think it's important to specify it ... Only data can (Like musics , level data , rooms , etc ...). So , if you plan to do a complex hack , with a rework of a lot of routines , enemies stuff , etc ... you should replace a lot of data between bank $E0 to $FF (after expanding of course), to get more space to insert codes into your ROM .
