Instant access bitch.  no guardians needed

Blade

But as far as I know those Metroids can only be frozen with Ice/Wave/Plasma ore Ice SBA correct? So you still have to grind some items before you can even bypass the metroid rooms

Drewseph

All locked doors are unlocked in tourian, just avoid the metroids, which can be repelled in EPB mode by PB's  Repelled and max stunned

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I was wondering whether 'instant access' meant there was some circuitous route you could take to go take on Mother Brain NOW armed only with your trusty pea shooter.

That is quite the challenge  :whoa:
Time to find my way to get early PB

Just uploaded v1.2.  change list is in the read me at the bottom.

I will say that thanks to PJ The Screw Attack puzzle has been fixed and the lights now work on 1.53

Hitaka

I finished the EPB route:

It was a lot of fun, and pretty challenging with a lot of cool tricks. I would recommend trying it out, but not until you've beaten the game normally. Oh, and it would be EXTREMELY difficult to do without savestates, as there's a lot of really precise stuff, so try on console at your own risk.

Drewseph

If you downloaded 1.2 before now please re download it.  I missed a one line change which can cause you to get stuck in the SA room.  specifically doors wouldn't open when shot.  uh oh.  I'm still considering it 1.2 since it should have been fixed with the SA puzzle fix, but not everything is always perfect.

I got Early PBs, and the room which SHOULD contain the Wall Jump Boots under Spore Spawn is in it's 2nd state, making grabbing them impossible. Is that intended? Does getting PBs trigger the 'Events 1' state in every room that has it? Does getting EPBs automatically make bombs and WJBs inaccessible (as in, that's what initiates the 'challenge mode')? If so, HOW do I get back out of Brinstar? I've really enjoyed the game up until spending the last 3 hours trying to find a second route out of Brinstar. do I need to damage boost to the top of the area to the right of the Brinstar<-->Crateria elevator to continue? I'm tempted to use SMILE, but thought asking here would be more 'legit'.  :colonrightv:

WJB and Bombs being unavailable is part of the challenge, it says so in the readme.
You need to damage boost up the tall rooms in Crateria above the elevator.
Drewseph

RealRed discovered a really bad bug in tourian where a room endlessly (or seemingly) spawned metroids, even after clearing the room.  so I had to make a quick fix for this as it could piss off many players thinking it was intentional.  how un-fun!

Patch 1.21 has been updated so grab that if you want.  I hear there's a more awesome hack out to play now!

M1CR0H4CK3R

Okay, a few questions:
1.) Was I supposed to get my first Super pack somewhere to the southeast of the elevator to Crateria in Brinstar? I was able to by chance find a way around to it, even though Hitaka said I was supposed to go to Crateria first.
2.) Where is the intended way to get into Norfair (for the Hell's Run)? Is it the PB door in the south-central part of Brinstar? I've stumbled upon it, and it's an elevator room, but I don't want to go somewhere unnecessarily, due to not having Varia.
3.) If I get EPBs, does the intended item order change at all (other than being unable to get WJBs and Bombs)? If so, what SHOULD I have gotten, in order, from EBPs onward? I don't need locations, I just don't want to get permastuck.
My order so far is Morph->Missiles->EPBs->Supers->High Jump/Spring Ball Does that sound about right? I assume the next 3 are supposed to be either Ice->Varia->Speed Booster or Ice->Varia->Grapple.
Am I on the right track?
1. No, you were supposed to get them from the third room up in Crateria, by where the missile is. There's a super there that's only in EPB. Drew says he fixed this bug so you can't get to the Brinstar ones first now.
2. There's no PB doors in this hack, you must mean a purple door. There's only one way to get to Norfair at the moment so that elevator is correct.
3. You can't get High Jump without Grapple. Otherwise you're on the right track.
I've just completed the SA puzzle (thanks for the hint) but I'm now wondering, do I need the space jump before I can retrieve my prize?

Quietus

You could maybe IBJ up there too?

Hiroshi Mishima

This is probably gonna sound strange, but not everyone is capable of pulling off Infinite Bomb Jumps. Some of us just can't keep the rhythm/timing/tempo/whatever going in our heads. I'm not daft enough to actually contemplate that EBP challenge, but I definitely had trouble sustaining it for more than 2-3 bombs if I even managed to pull it off - I don't think that's necessarily a slant against Redesign or Drew, I was bad at it in Vanilla SM, too.

Anyways, just wanted to stop by and say I checked the latest patch out and Tourian is still kind of an unnecessarily difficult gauntlet. A couple rooms the Metroid still feel like they're endlessly bumrushing you, but so far this was the worst.

Despite the openness of the room, I really didn't feel like there was breathing room, what with the lava right underneath and if you had a Metroid on you, whelp.. time to reload that save state or hard save.

Oh, and this kinda seemed like a scrolling error, cause the room sorta twitched/didn't always scroll when you jumped.

I would say that overall I definitely feel Axeil Edition is an improvement. I greatly prefer the new wall jumping mechanics, as opposed to playing the whole game on 50% speed to even have a chance of pulling one off, like I did in the old Redesign. I was genuinely enjoying the remake before Tourian, though the slowness of the Morph Ball when first obtained did kinda bug me for a while.

Drewseph

Thanks for the reports on the issues, however none of the image links load?

IBJ is never required for normal completion of the game.

Which tourian rooms had metroids endlessly coming out?  if it was a 3 metroid room you need to kill all 3 at the samish time before one gets a chance to re-spawn.

Initial morphball speed is pretty slow, but I was trying to make HJ a positive reward as springball has faster rolling speeds.  I'll see about trying to increase it for the next patch, which will probably be the last util any other major issue comes up.

In tourian no room with less than 3 metroids should spawn endlessly, at most you'll be fighting 4 to clear a room.  let me know if you encounter a broken one.  also what version patch are you using?

Hiroshi Mishima

Sorry about the images, I don't know why they didn't work right. I'll just link them the old fashioned way. And yeah, it's a three-Metroid room. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8nmwt9v11tnj4nt/Redesign3.png?dl=0 (hopefully that one should work)

And here's the the shaft, too. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3f5wnb4sc0q87t/Redesign1.png?dl=0

I understand about the morph ball speed, especially after a friend said it got faster with High Jump. That's why I decided I could live with the initial slowness. Especially since had that automatic Morph Ball mechanic you added - love that so much.

I really am glad that you went to all this work and put out the Axeil Edition, cause it definitely addresses a lot of the frustration I had with the original, which had been a shame for me cause of the potential and how much work you'd already done. Just wanted to mention that, cause good gods did I swear playing the old vesion, haha...

Drewseph

I've decided to increase the morphing ball speed slightly for the next patch.  I'll investigate the tourian rooms thanks for pointing them out.

I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you were able to enjoy this so far!  I hope you are willing to try the EPB challenge after you complete the run!

ianfrombristol

With regard to IBJ, I must admit it's the one special technique I mastered on the original game to the extent I have even managed the diagonal variant (on rare occasions). However, with the changed physics in Redesign I just can't fuggin' do it  :yay:

So back to my original question; do I need space jump to get screw attack?

Drewseph

you require one of the following:

-Space Jump

-Gravity + IBJ

-HIBJ

ianfrombristol

Thanks Drewseph  So spacejump it is :!:

Shadax

Hello all,

First thanks for that great hack, seriously made my day to play this hehe.I got a question regarding early powerbomb challenge damage boosts.
What really make damage boost go up ? Only works on certains spots ? I'm not sure where to "catch" the monster, i'm kinda far from the height required from all spots i tried in crateria

This one T.T
Hey Drewseph! You might recognize me as that random YouTuber who got stuck on the lost caverns (I'M SO MLG YO). I saw you were here on the Metroid Construction forums and decided to drop by. By the way, I'm just loving SMR: Axeil Edition! What used to be a really cool but hard hack is just something I can hardly describe as "just a hack." Your hack reinvents Super Metroid to the point where it feels like a brand new game! I'm dead serious; new physics engine, rebuilt area map, and the new sprite for the Gravity Suit are among my favorite changes. I believe that this version knocks both the original hack and even the original Super Metroid way out of the park! Great job! From me, and from everyone else who played and liked your hack! I'll be sure to post my time and % completion when I finish it.

I'm so happy to hear you are enjoying this version!  There are a few final bugs that I'm aware of that will be fixed in the next patch, so keep an eye out and load from a hard save station when I release it.  Please be sure to rate the game and review it on the hacks page. http://beta.metroidconstruction.com/hack.php?id=205
From the moment you begin a jump you get a timer that starts ticking down.  in you fail to initiate a damage boost within that time period you lose all vertical speed.  if you are in the air for even longer you lose the chance to boost at all.

You are supposed to crouch jump and boost off of the highest beam from the space pirate in that spot.
