QuoteAlright, it seems that I've hit a roadblock. Just took out Drygon (well, I did a few hours ago,) and went item, and guardian hunting. The hint system is pointing me to Tourain's entrance, and a couple speedbooster spots. The latter seems to only pertain to item locations though. I've 7 guardians left, and this is my item progress:

I can only think of one spot to possibly progress; do I need to take an acid bath? If not, could someone give me a minor hint?

You should check Maridia for one more majore Item. That closed gate in the sandfallroom with the two green gates is youre goal. After that there is one more majore boss to beat
you never, under any circumstances, have to take an acid bath ever.  its too deadly.
You do in a couple rooms in Norfair for 100% map. ;P

Drewseph, you mention to not load from a save state and use a hard save. Is that everytime you start the game or just after applying the 1.1 patch. I am enjoying this Drewseph. Just got the graaple beam and calling it a night.

Just the 1.1 patch.  since I changed some code if you have a save state on the affected sections you'll lock up

Elminster

Updated my earlier post with my thoughts on 1.1.

1.1 patch
Chksum: Failed.
Rest in peace... my run...  :<_<:
OK, can I update the game without losing progress?

Have you created a hard save, like Drewseph suggested?  If not, you'll just need to apply the original v1.0 patch to a new ROM, load your save state, then hard save and start on v1.1.  It that all fails, I'd be tempted to just finish your run in v1.0.

brofist, now it's work!

I think the Item % counter in the menu is broken for v1.1, dont know if this has to do with me increasing the morphball speed to normal

Out of curiosity, how is the distance travelled calculated?  I'd be interested in seeing a TAS covering the theoretical minimum distance. :^_^:

If you messed with the game, then its on you.

Congrats! good time, next you should do the EPB challenge.  I don't think anyone has even figured it out yet.

Distance is calculated on pixels traveled horizontally and vertically, and when both are done, Pythagorean theorem is applied to calculate pixels traveled.  Samus is 2 meters tall.  or 42 pixels.  i decided that every time the distance count talley's over $15 pixels, it subtracts 15 from the counter and adds 1 to the main saves distance. (meters traveled)
<squishy_ichigo> I just came up with a way to make screw attack puzzle less dumb, and more intuative
<squishy_ichigo> use audio clues, to tell players when there doing it right/wrong
<squishy_ichigo> so thet're not stimbling around for hours trying to figure it out, like I did
<squishy_ichigo> when the answer to solving it is supposed to be be fairly straight forward
<squishy_ichigo> and it shouldn't be too hard to implement either

Alright, I've spent the past two hours X-raying literally every single possible area in Maridia that I can access. This led me to find a second guardian and a powerbomb tank, nothing more. There are still three items that I can't figure out how to get (two speedbooster puzzles, one exposed missile tank) but those are irrelevant. I haven't forgotten about my favorite item in this hack, which I presume is behind that closed gate. As far as I can tell, the button for it is NOT in Maridia. I know I'm obviously missing something though as the noob tube in the SW area is still inaccessable, and there's still another guardian. To say I'm sick of the sound of the X-ray at this point is a huge understatement. I've also tried wedging myself in every crevice possible, and exploring every sand pit as well. There is one peculiar spot, but it is inaccessable:

I hate asking for help, and I despise asking for more than a hint, but will someone just tell me exactly where the hell I need to go in this god-forsaken map? I'm at wits end here. Unless I simply need to just leave this map, in which case just say which one I should head to. Please and thank you.  :^_^:
This is my map: (SPOILER WARNING!)

Here is my item progress:

Here is my boss/mini-boss kill list:
Bomb Torizo
Spore Spawn
Kraid
Crocomire
Phantoon
Botwoon
Drygon
Highly doubt it matters, but I'm still running V1.0.

Also, screw the screw attack. I don't even know how to articulate myself regarding it further than a simple "no."

Blade

Well
Check one of the rooms near the top-right elevator to Crateria in Maridia. There is a hidden path in of the ceilings that leds to the closed gate. As for Screw Attack... I hate this puzzle too, but after an houre bombing these switches I finally got the solution, and you definitely want Screw Attack.
Tyjet:
I've not passed there yet, but I seem to recall that the glass tube you're referring to automatically breaks once Draygon is dead.  It's just a pain to have to backtrack over there.
Alisa Orlova

Stupid pipe doesn't want to explode and looks like it's a good moment to stop. I'm not resigned to defeat i just need a rest of this game. I dare guess that i don't need to go through the entire game to have my own opinion about it, right?

I never played the original Redesign myself i just saw a few videos and it was a millions years ago. And of course i remember nothing except "You shall not pass!!!!" and "Phantom Skip Trick by Saturn." But i decided to play a new version on "hard mode" difficulty. I did not use "quick Save/L", "Internet", "Game pace -/+", "New hints system", "SMILE" and "notes". (PrtScr game map, open it in Photoshop and make a notes like: "green gate" and etc). So... it wasn't a very easy journey. But still... a bad player doesn't mean that the game is bad.
So, my review!
•   I don't know how many statues in each area and where they are. This means that I'll spend a lot of time for looking statues which may simply not be there. It really was so hard to make a message like: "you have found 2 of the 3 statues in Crateria"?
•   Crystal Flash. 800 energy by 5/5/6. It's insanely powerful cheat! We already can use it before the second boss, and in my opinion it's overkill. It has to be something like "second breath" or "last chance" but not a "who is the boss now? Relax your throat and look me in my eyes". It may just be an item for the latter stages of the game and the process can be aborted if the character will get a hit. Unfortunately "deadly fatigue/exhaustion" (i just don't remember the name of this pose when we fight against Mother Brain) have only a left side animation. This could be a nice ending animation for Crystal Flash. Or i guess you can just switch off a both suit by 20 and 40 seconds. It will be a good balance between "more health / more danger". So, please think about it a little bit.
•   Speed booster escape. Significantly easier than it should be. Ran forward, then vertical Shine Spark, then few jumps (enemy not a big deal) and here we are! Done! Please think about what would make two different paths to escape. (Easy and pro). "Pro" way means - one mistake one dead. But player will take a reward like E-tank and save a lot of time. If player is not good enough, he can pick an easiest way to get out and come back here a later on with gravity suit and collect E-Tank. It will be a nice time killer for runners and choice it's always good.
"Pro" way means: "Vertical/Horizontal/Diagonal shinesparks + Spark Charging + mockball". It's doesn't means enemy is everywhere and almost impassable jumps (edge grab trick). Your "code" can be there (EPB challenge) have no idea what it is actually.  :heheh:
•   Grapple beam escape. The same thoughts as "Speed Booster Escape". (test your might if you're Pro).
•   Air. Fool X-RAY.  Please do not use this to hide secrets.
•   Puzzle difficulty / the value of Rewards. A little bit unbalanced in my opinion.
•   Pro tricks. (Auto Walljumping/Morphing/Space Jump). Well in my opinion "trick" means "trick" and It shouldn't be too easy. SM it's a game of "old school", it's not a "X-box" (press one button to win! the main idea). What about auto AIM+Health regeneration+Auto ammo refill+god mode enable_1 in menu?

So... something like this.  :<_<:

But much more than something else, I want to say, THANKS! F**k's sake Sir., it's just an awesome game! Thanks a lot! The game is made with love, for all of us and completely for free! Huge thanks!  Special thanks to your team  (previous Redesign and a new one).
Drewseph

The pipe explodes after Ridley.  and I even have a hint for it placed too (in 1.0)

The screw attack puzzle is timed, 15 seconds is the length the longest gate is on, each other gate is one second shorter than than the next in order, so the last switch is 10 seconds long.

as per squishy's request I've changed it to that the puzzle buzzes and shakes when the wrong combination is input, instead of just reducing the time on the remaining gates.

Alisa, I hope you manage to continue.  Cause there are other things I'd love your thoughts on. as for you points about difficulty being too easy.  So many people ripped those rooms apart for being too difficult before.  anyway Thanks for the early review, and I hope you get to add to that once you complete the game.

Hi Guys. I'm from Brazil and i have a bad English (I used google translator to ask that question)

Someone made the "Screw Attack" code, I'm trying a few days and nothing. I need him to go for "Lower Norfair". Thanks

Omegatroid

Nice hack! I just started playing this yesterday. Infinite bomb jump is kinda hard but I'm getting good at it a little.
I got the Ice Beam.
I guess I should release patch 1.2 soon.  but not many changes have been done yet.

Some emulators don't seem to display the switches right.  they should light up on screen as you bomb them.  I finde the bigest offender is SNES9x1.53.  I actually play on 1.43 which seems to have no issues with the gates lighting up on screen.

That will be nice Drewseph, as I am using SNES9x1.53. myself.

Hitaka

The SA switch lights refresh when you pause and unpause, so you can do that to check which switches are still pressed.

Daltone

There are a few rooms in maridia where the is no water but fish swimming around? and some tile errors riddled throughout maridia.
screw attack puzzle, dont know if this works different on emu vs snes but on console the lights will only turn on and off once i roll so the switches are off screen before they turn on or off, the audio queue works though so it wasnt too hard to figure out the rest of the way.
Way too many double bomb jumps in all the morph tunnels, or having to bomb at the peak of a springball, it just seems excessive at this point.
cant find wave or plasma, dont know if im supposed to have these before going into lower norfair
Good job on alot of this hack, theres too much good stuff in here to get sour over the minor setbacks.

Drewseph

It seems that Snes9x doesn't run SM correctly, 1.51 should be the emulator to use.  I'm not sure if Zsnes has the same problem.

Daltone, what rooms have floating fish?  this is kinda important if I am to fix this as I have not encountered this error nor heard form anyone else about it.

Alukraid

My go-to emulator for SNES games is Higan without a doubt. It's extremely amazingly mega good. Yes. http://byuu.org/emulation/higan/
