Error with SMILE

Ok, so I just downloaded the latest version of SMILE off the tools section on this site. I stuck it into a folder with all it's component files but everytime i run it, it says Runtime Error '76': Path not found.

   Please help! I'm trying to make Super Metroid 2!

I have only encountered Runtime Error 75 once, and that was entirely my own fault.
This (which would indeed be the first this from before) should cover 99% of all of the runtime errors you'll ever encounter with SMILE.
That being said, we couldn't work out why DMantra was being riddled with Error 75's. . . Anyway, chances are you're attempting to work on a hack while it's in a Read-Only drive, or alternatively it's in Dropbox (or anything similar to that).

Well, I have the same feelings but when messing with ASM file. Xkas is stupid offen not understaning the constants. So, I'm making ASM patches very rare and prefer IPS ones instead.

As for SMILE, that was my the very first error with SMILE (for SMILE 2.x where X is from 0 to 5 this error is called "Run-time error 9"). I mean, trying to edit read-only file. What's the problem to download ROM of your hack to your HDD and remove the read-only property?

As for me, although I can add brand new feature and test it before official release, I'm still using SMILE 2.3 for the most of works. SMILE 2.5 or 2.83 is used when needed some of them features.
Two reasons:
1. Most of hacks are in that folder.
2. Current version is not perfect (yes, I admit it).

But I'm still thinking that the last SMILE version is in captivity should be killed because of this error 76 and it should be replaced with stable 2.5 or/and last 2.83 JX.
