I was thinking the same thing. Why else would he have coded Ridley and Crocomire in the beta and then not use them?? Realistically he'd just need to code in new AI enemies and possible tilesets and events. Probably just utilize the current engine to save a TON of time.

probably not. More along the lines that doc is tying super metroid and metroid 2 together (as super metroid comes straight after metroid 2)

iirc, confrontation was supposed to be it's own thing away from am2r. Whether that'll be expanded on or not, is another thing
It would be really cool if he re-released it as an engine. It'd be like the discovery of electricity, the capabilities of it are amazing and unfathomable. I'm not getting my hopes up, but who knows. Either way, it's definitely satisfying to see it 100% complete. I can't help but wonder though, with the time invested into making a game of that caliber, is he going to work on another Metroid game? I mean, the resources are still there, a good half of that creation time can be shaken off with the framework already there, it'd be like spending a bunch of time to make a killer sandwich, only eating half, and then throwing the rest away without saving it for later or giving it to someone else.
Is there a missable missile tank in the area that blows up? I'm stuck at 99% and my entire map is filled in.

Edit: Never mind, there's a missile that's not marked on the map for some reason.
Finished my first playthrough of this.

Not really much I can say, this fills that 2D Metroid void we've been having since 2004.

Looking at this date, it's just plain wrong, I dare say criminal, it's not like Metroid Zero Mission had bad reception or anything, people liked it and it was generally received very well on release, I really don't understand why they dropped the ball so hard with the series, it's like Nintendo thinks they can't make a game unless it has some kind of gimmick built around it. (Think about it, would we have even gotten Link Between Worlds if it didn't have that wall merging gimmick?)

Anyway, sorry for the little rant, I thought AM2R was a lot of fun, I almost didn't even want to stop for sleep for this game.
The only nitpicks I have is I thought the hit-box on the Gamma Metroids was a tad too small, and the Dark Zone in area 3 was too dark in the Gamma Metroid rooms making it kind of annoying trying to fight what I can't see.

Overall very solid, especially for a fan-game. 9.5/10

Could you spoil where that unmarked missile is? I"m also stuck at 99% and assume I'm in the same situation as you were.

Smiley

I also had that problem. Eventually I found a missile here:

I got one new Zelda title, which was completely devoid of puzzle and dungeons.
Which Zelda are you talking about? I didn't think there was one out for the Wii U already.
Hyrule Warriors. Though I would consider it much like Link's Crossbow Training; existent, but irrelevant to the series. Features the combat aspect, but completely devoid of anything Zelda but combat.

Either way, if Nintendo wants to abandon their best trademarks, that's fine, all of these people like us will keep it going. If they really cared about it, they'd be making new titles for it. Aside from that, the company's got a clientele with its fans, if they go around shutting down non-profit fan games, they're basically attacking their own franchise, something their own fans were interested in who are now bitter with you and want to withdraw from the company. Then you have to weigh your losses, is the fan game costing you more revenue then shutting it down and losing money in sales? In this case, they're best bet is to leave it be, which is likely why they've allowed it to happen, they know it's out there, they have to by now, after all these years.
Actually, Nintendo said they won't care/encourage people to make tributes to their stuff, as long as no money is involved. And a lot of the C&D comes from an ex Nintendo employee. Now if this was say Microsoft or Sony or square, it would be a worse story.

Sadly it looks like that is not the case given what just happened with it. And it seems the C&D is real according to people who wrote news articles on it, not just a fake one.

That flat out sucks....
With that said if anyone has a certain zip file, or RAR or whatever.... not say'n THIS particular C&D subject but something that might not be available that I might be interested in or something... PM me a link

EDIT:   Well, it looks like for reasons I will no longer be needing that previously requested link to a file of some kind or something....
First off, it's not a C&D. It was covered by a DMCA notice, which is like the babby version of a real C&D and the bullshit people have been pulling for years on Youtube videos, albeit it's still a valid legal tactic (which is stupid - thanks USA!). Second off, fuk tha poleece

On a more relevant note, 5:04:16 100% I'm too lazy to upload the photo because photos always save in my phone's internal memory and I don't want to beat the game again just to get a screenshot. This game wasn't bad, per se, but I felt like it could have been more faithful. The ambience of the original wasn't there, replaced with remixes and rehashes of music from other Metroid games that triggered my nostalgia criticism bad. Otherwise, it was an okay Metroid game, where anything that wasn't okay involved unnecessary difficulty spikes and needlessly difficult regular enemies, along with Metroid AIs that tended to try to permanently fuse with Samus in a Game Over Fusion-ha. I can't really call this a remake so much as a reenvisioning, honestly, but small differences...

Sorry about the indication it was C&D then if it was really DMCA, but it seems the effect is going to be basically just as bad for Metroid fans. He mentioned on the blog at the release that he wouldn't be done with just a 1.0 release. He indicated that he would be fixing bugs and doing other things with the game, but I'm afraid that may all be over thanks to this, or perhaps he could distribute completely legal ips patches that modify the original files. The thing is, he may be so disheartened over this that he just gives up.

Zero One

The weird thing is, Nintendo didn't serve DoctorM with the DMCA, they hit Metroid Database. MdB only hosted the file, so as far as I can see, DoctorM is still free to work on and distribute the game.

Sheoldred

They initially didn't go for him but I think they must have done so after he sent out the tweet saying he wasn't contacted. This is because the post he made on his blog releasing the game has been removed, so now the newest post is just the countdown clock at zero. Or maybe he hid the release post from people without a blogspot membership or something. That would explain why I don't see it there anymore.

:pale: oh man I wasn't able to grab this!

Doc knows exactly what words to use in a situation like this better than most english speakers. What he says here also makes me proud that I own Metroid 2 physically as a Game Boy cart and on my 3DS.

Steel Sparkle

It really stinks this happend. Thankfully he still works on it privately. Im glad Doc has such a healthy attitude towards all this.

First playthrough was a casual 100%, took over 5 hours.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as I thought and doctorm64 thought.
Nintendo Inc is making very swift moves to keep am2r off the internet and to let a sweet fangame be enjoyed by any others.
Those of you that have the download already keep it backed up somewhere safely as we may not see it go back up again.
Also don't be afraid to share it privately with a buddy you know behind closed doors but not in broad daylight in a forum like this.
After seing all of this occur and then looking at nintendo inc begging gamers to download their demo and buy their metroid federation joke game ?
I am not buying the game they pulled a dick move against the guy, as someone else put it nicely in pcgamer.com, so I'll pull a dick move and won't support nintendo new game.

You're a little bit behind there. As for people redistributing their copies of AM2R, there may or may not be a certain way to get it from this website, and that way may or may not have something to do with the randomly changing quote line, but I can't confirm that.

Personally, while I was at first surprised that Nintendo would do it, it makes sense. They have to protect their trademarks. However, they don't have to protect their copyrights, which is strange, because a DMCA is all about copyright, not trademark. It would've been taken down anyway, but they filed the wrong thing for the reasons they're providing.

For clarification, a copyright is immutable. Allowing people to use your copyrighted materials doesn't weaken your copyrights. However, trademarks can be weakened by external use, which would be a valid reason to to ask for the game to be taken down, but they filed a DMCA, not a Letter Before Action. But, again, irrelevant, it would've happened anyway.

As for FedForce, I've shat on it, but I'm gonna get it, assuming they aren't targeting the New 3DS. Blast Ball was pretty fun.

Digital_Mantra

I'd sat lets all boycott Federation Force but you can't boycott something you weren't gonna buy in the first place.  :heheh:
