I've been using Tile Layer Pro, and can't get it to show the correct palettes for the tiles.

How did I get the correct palettes to show up in TLP?

In addition to exporting the tileset, make sure you export the palette as well. Also be sure you're viewing the tiles in SNES mode (View -> Format -> SNES).

It won't let me export anything. It only lets me import.

You have to export the tileset and palette from SMILE's graphics editor. From there you open them in TLP.

Okay, so here's a step-by-step guide, complete with screenshots I took just then!
First of all, make sure you're in a room that uses the gfx that you want. Note the numbers around the "block" selected, they're the palette the 8*8 tile uses.
Once you're in the right room, export the gfx (make sure you export the SCENERY), then export the palette like so:

From here, open up TLP, load up the GFX you want to use. Then make sure the format is set to SNES/4BPP.

Once you've done that, click on palette>Load and find the palette you just exported.

The palette should have loaded now. Scroll through using those little arrows down there until you find the right palette you want to change for the tiles you're editing.
Another thing to remember is that to view them in the arranger, you go Palette>Transfer to Arranger, and then it'll show up right over there.
Hopefully that helps, feel free to drop me a pm if there's anything else basic you want explained.  :^_^:

I turned my monitor round to see what was behind the secret scribble, but it didn't work.

If you're more of a visual learner, Shadow created some good videos for TLP a while ago.  You can find links in our Videos section (under TLP rather than Shadow's name).

I've watched them, and got it to work!

Thanks!
