It's been a while, hasn't it.

Anyways here are some screenshots of a hack I'm making! It's kind of weird. And so is the plot!

"A while after the events of Super Metroid, (Other M? What's that?) Samus Aran receives something from what seems to be the Galactic Federation. A paid vacation on an uncharted planet! Except the Federation never actually sent her anything! Suspicious, Samus flies off to this mystery planet and unravels yet another case of wacky Space Pirate antics! But could a more sinister force be at work here?"

Oh, right, the screenshots. Here's what I've done so far.

The bright and sunny landing site at the Shore Rock region is a far cry from the stormy surface of Crateria. Also, hey there, Tourian plants, what are you doing here?

The watery catacombs of Shore Rock that lead to the caves of Aquell. These rooms are drained after Samus obtains some missiles. (And don't worry about the crabs, their health and damage has been lowered to that of a mere Geemer.)

The aforementioned caves of Aquell. It is here where Samus finds the missiles...and a strange growth of Dooreye? Fearsome. (May or may not be removed.)

Expect more screenshots! And hopefully I might get this hack finished unlike my old one. Hopefully.

Looks good from what I can see. The red rocks ehhhh but the sky looks good. i always like that maridia gfx set and I don't see too many Rooms of the Week using it so seeing more of that is cool too. The door eye growth looks like something Digital Mantra would use heh. Anyways keep working on it bro best of luck

FullOfFail

I already love this, the plot, the bright coloration, everything. Looking forward to it.

The blue shores look odd against the orange, though. Might want to tweak that some.

i like what i see so far!  :^_^:

how big do you plan making this hack?

Quietus

Always up for some vividly coloured hacks.  Keep us posted. :^_^:

A few more screenshots of upper Aquell.

The main elevator chamber. Not too different from the original game, but with the addition of purple funes! I don't want to know what they are shooting.

Much of lower Aquell is inaccessible without the Gravity Suit. The water in the upper regions of this area is shallower and not much of a problem.

I need to figure out some way of keeping people from morphballing into the reflec tunnel and bombing it. Bombs and Reflec are not a good mix.

I don't plan on making the hack too long, but it won't be too short either.

Smiley

Cloud20

Hum... interesting hack, I like the idea of a Aquell/maridia accessible at the begining of the hack. Did you plan to rework Aquell palettes?

Qactis

awesome, not many hacks (that i've played) have the reflec enemy!
:D

More screenshots! Please ignore the maxed-out energy meter, because Quickmet.

So here's a preview of Kraid's Lair, or as I refer to it now, "Kraid's Litterbox". No refunds.

It doesn't seem like Kraid has been taking care of the place...there's dead seaweed everywhere. But that shouldn't concern you, and neither should the incompetent Space Pirates prowling the base.

This Zebbo pit right outside the entrance on the other hand, was actually so annoying that I put an extra platform to help out if you fall in.

As a bonus, here's Spore Spawn's new arena. The only thing notable about this screenshot is that I shouldn't have Super Missiles yet (spore spawn still guards them) but again, you can blame me testing in Quickmet for that.

(And if you're wondering, no, I did not kill Spore Spawn with the super missiles.)

EDIT: Disregard all that! Now Spore Spawn guards a completely different item.

i'm starting to love this hack from what i see.

I always enjoy seeing a more whimsical take, especially on a subject (Metroid) that has always been "officially" bent toward a more serious story. To really humanize the character, putting Samus in a completely out of the ordinary serious schlock does wonders to help someone imagine what else goes on behind the scenes that Nintendo says happen. That being said, it still looks like you are trying to keep some of the seriousness in the hack, but just to a lesser extent.

With that out of the way, I will just say I like what I see so far, and I hope you continue to advance this.

Baconface

Deeper into the mechanized depths of Kraid's Litterbox you will find these space pirates working in little cubicles. Samus can just roll underneath them.

Oh no! Fake Kraid!

Oh no! Real Kraid!

Oh no! Real fake Kr-oh wait, just power bombs.

You don't get the Varia Suit here, noooo. It's somewhere cold, but that's all I'll tell you for now because I haven't started that area yet.

Ralisor

Holy Snippity Snap this looks like something awesome! Can't wait until release!

Also... Screenshots on my birthday! Woooo!

You're not alone in that. :^_^:

personitis

Palettes and level design are nice from what I see so far. Also, Kraid's Litterbox got me to laugh hard last night. Looking forward to more eye candy.

Baconface

After obtaining the power bombs, you can explore a part of Shore Rock that was previously inaccessible. No explanations on why it's so cold compared to the rest of the area. Note that this is not the cold area I mentioned in the previous post. This just serves as the "gateway" to that area.

These Snow Geemers are a lot more powerful than the ones in Crateria. They take three shots from a normal, uncharged Power Beam, two if you picked up the Spazer upgrade beforehand.

Snow Desgeegas are exactly the same as regular Desgeegas. And just as annoying. Don't worry, you won't have to deal with them that much.

As usual, ignore the HUD, because Quickmet.

Zhs2

Don't spoil the whole hack now, yo.

Qactis

A lot of people like to use brinstar spore fx for snow, and it's also possible to edit what the spores look like, so they look like actual snow.

Baconface

Well, this is a problem.

As it turns out, for the past five or so backups, I had no idea that the main elevator chamber in Aquell had turned into this thing. Everything looks fine in SMILE, but then, upon testing...kaboom. Every other room I've edited so far is normal.

To make this post less depressing, here, have a giant walking seahorse.

Ptoo! Ptoo!

MetroidMst

There are a couple of options here. 1. Does the room have multiple roomstates? 2. Overwritten something that caused the GFX to glitch. Check into those, and hopefully you have backups.

Remember the podcast, backup, backup, backup.

1...nope.

2...nope.

Currently I have 15 backups. The most recent one was the 12th one, not as bad as I originally thought, so the only things lost were most of Kraid's Litterbox and the entirety of Frozen Shore Rock. Not too big of a deal, I can probably bring them back. It will be tricky, but I have a plan...

And by plan, I mean I'm going to copy and paste each edited screen of tiles into the unglitched version, and place the enemies and PLMs and such where they should be placed.

Tedious, but it could of been worse.

MetroidMst

That is the best option actually. However, if you don't know what caused it, it will most likely happen again. I would suggest copying the backup before the glitching, and trying to break it. So you can find out why and figure out how to avoid/fix it.

Baconface

I think I figured it out.

The earliest backup that contains the glitch is also the earliest that contains an edited Kraid arena.

And now...to start porting everything. Except for Kraid's arena, of course!
