And then you could set that button to turbo in the emulator, and have yourself a merry seizure. :^_^:

So far, I've been enjoying this version of Project Base. Can't wait to start playing 0.7.1. :^_^:

Extremely close to release now.

Let's talk about backflipping! The current button inputs for it (run button + jump button while crouched) are the defaults, and I don't think I'll be changing that, since it would screw over the people who have gotten very used to it being that way. BUT, Dessyreqt suggested changing the inputs to L button + R button + jump button while crouched instead, which sounds like it would also be nice and flowy for controller users... So! Here is how you can change the button inputs for backflipping to whatever you want, using a hex editor.

8A6F0 - 80 80 [facing right]
8A740 - 80 80 [facing left]

From Kejardon's ControllerInput.txt:

8000: B button
4000: Y button
2000: Select
1000: Start
0800: Up
0400: Down
0200: Left
0100: Right
0080: A button
0040: X button
0020: L
0010: R

B = 8000, and A = 0080, so B+A = 8080.

To change the inputs to L+R+jump, all you would need to do is edit 80 80 into B0 00 at both of those spots, then save the ROM. How it works out: L = 0020, R = 0010, A = 0080, so L+R+A = 00B0, which is read backwards in hex, becoming B0 00. If you want to disable backflipping altogether, try FF FF.

I don't know, Grime. I personally prefer the backflipping to be done by pressing run + jump while crouching. I've gotten used to that button combination as of now.

Quietus

That's why he's left the input as-is.  Grime has just provided details for anybody to use, IF they want to change them. :^_^:

begrimed

If anybody does change them, let me know what you decided on! I'm curious what other set-ups could be used.

#481
I was actually thinking that just holding run and pressing jump could work, as it would only kick in if the player was on the ground, stationary.  Any movement for Samus (whether any input is being held or not) would prevent it from activating.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the above would also negate the need for crouching.

begrimed

To do it would take a different set of tweaks, possibly a different patch because I'd need to move the pose table entries over from crouching to standing. Should be doable. That sounds like it would happen a whole lot by mistake, lol.

Quietus

Well, I did think that was a possibility, but it isn't often that players will be holding the run button if they're not moving. :^_^:

Edit: Next up - Backflip races.

Jordan5

Personally I never ever let go of run unless I'm doing a short charge, even when I'm still

Excellent!  I think I'll have me some vanilla flavoured Base Cream this time. :^_^:

Awesome. :) Will there be a 0.7.2?
I suspect there'll be loads of versions yet, until Grime is happy enough for a v1.0 release.

I see. Hopefully there will be more merged rooms and perhaps in a later version we may be able to revisit the Ceres Space Colony for something new. :)

If there is a 0.7.2, it'll just be a bug fixer-upper. 0.7.1 was supposed to be a much smaller update than it was, but... y'know. The main goals for 0.8 are cleaning out bank 8F, finalizing tilesets, and finishing a whole bunch of room mergers / additions that I ran out of space in bank 8F for. I won't be working on that for a long time.

I see. Well, keep up the good work, Grime. :^_^:

Hey there, Grime,

I found a few minor things in PB 0.7.1.
I've sent you a mail, by the way.

The only thing I noticed so far that can be considered ''bugs'' is the Spazer room not refreshing the colors back to normal when using the X-ray scope and the R button in the map screen being slightly glitched, when being pressed.
Oddly enough, this just happened to me in the room where charge beam is.
I included screenshots too, as well as a small (still incomplete) list of suggestions, minor easthetical flaws etc..

Keep in mind that, aside from the aforementioned bugs, everything here is just my own, personal opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt.
Still need to play through the latest build completely, after all.  :heheh:

begrimed

Hey, I saw the emails. Thanks! That X-ray dimming bug in the Spazer room is weird. I wonder if it happens with other rooms using unique palettes (first missile room, first super missile room, Kraid's lair). I'm not seeing the glitchy R graphics, though. Also, opinions are good, so don't hold anything back. Opinions help make better future versions. :D

I don't know when it'll be released, but I've got a "Vanilla Gameplay" PB in the works that ONLY changes rooms, enemy placement and aesthetics/GFX. Everything else is completely untouched, so SM purists should dig it.

VariaphazonSamus

You're welcome.  :^_^:

If you want, I can see and check out the other rooms.
Still haven't beaten Kraid; I'm trying out something different.
Since PB allows very versatile progression, I'm currently in Maridia, trying to take on Draygon... suitless... just with charge beam and Spazer... and less than 100 missiles and a handful of super missiles.
I will let you know once I've tested the other rooms though, if nobody else has done it until then.

I've also sent you another mail where I painted in where exactly this supposed ''bug'' is.
Well, I'm guessing it is one, since the R button field isn't filled entirely with the yellow color when being pressed, while it is being filled entirely, when pressing the L button, so it seemed off to me.
I just don't understand why this just happened in the charge beam room to me...  :O_o:
Checked in Maridia and late Brinstar and the R button works normal there.
As for opinions, I will take your word for that and sqaush in as much as I can that I notice.  :^_^:

Regarding the vanilla gameplay, that's pretty neat.
To be honest, I didn't really liked the change of the detonation time of normal bombs, as it made (to me, atleast) IBJ rather difficult, even impossible.
It might be just a matter of practice though.
The good thing about the current setup is that I can more or less freely explore Maridia, since I just have to keep spamming the shoot button, so this is actually pretty neat.

So, today i grabbed your new Project Base Update 0.7.1 and i noticed i softlocked me in that Chozo room there in Wrecked Ship without beating Phantoon and the Chozo did not react when i'm in MB and the door to the outside is grey/locked, so.. i'm clueless now.. Is this a bug there i can actually enter that room but i can't leave? (Sorry about my english :x )

begrimed

Oopsie, that is indeed a bug. Can't believe I missed that. Written down to fix, thanks!

VariaphazonSamus

Now where you mention softlocks, I found something as well.
See attachment, please.

It's one of the rooms in lower Norfair.
You know, the one with these flying creatures that darken the room once you kill them, the one room where you can grab an energy tank from in the bottom right corner (hope this doesn't count as a spoiler, since it's present in vanilla SM as well).
I can easily get out of it though by going into morph ball, so that's not the problem.
But, I thought I would drop this here nontheless.

(And before anyone asks: I don't have mediafire or any other shenanigans, so I've indeed added a single picture to an empty .zip data because of not knowing how to show that screenshot otherwise.  :bounce:)

You'll need to upload the image to one of the many image hosting sites, then copy the forum url, and place it between img tags, like so:
