Vismund Cygnus

Echoing what everyone else says, my vote is with fof for making an alien looking palette that doesn't suck balls. Not many people would be able to nail something so bright/theoretically terrible, but you really managed it. Props to you. Although I worry about getting headaches if I look at it for too long.
Other rooms:
The use of layering is good, although there could be a bit more overlapping with the layer 1 and 2. The palette looks good too, but I feel that this background triangly things look a bit too bright. It's clear that they're not foreground tiles, but they kinda stick out more than they should.

I'm assuming from what Quote said that your room is a throwback to M2? The problem being that I haven't played m2, so unfortunately all I see is what is a fairly plain item room. I mean, it's not bad, it's just plain.

Quit noob, you're terrible.
Digital_Mantra

vismund: decent room
me: just m2 item room, whatever
fof: wins my vote because a spore got in samus' helmet and she tripped out.
smile: really cool room

Vismund Cygnus

hey hey it's Saturday
For me anyway
I'll just dump this here
poop.

I hate you fof
Every time I make a good room, someone else enters an epic one and I hate everything

FullOfFail

Vis, knowing my luck, Black_Falcon or Dman will enter :/ Which, I'd always welcome, competition is what taught me to hack.

DSO

Quietus

I love the vivid colours in both Vismund and FoF's rooms.  Fof: Perhaps tone down the brightness just a smidge on the yellow CRE?

Cloud20

My week entry.

This is a special room divided by two. In a one side you will fight an Ice Space Pirate with the Combustion beam. The ice at the floor is destroyable and hide some water. The second side have some fake lava and a Fire Space Pirate, needing the Nitrogen beam.

I couldn't save the room because it went over the room limit, so I can't really fix anything about it at this point. I originally tried giving it more of a golden color, but it just didn't look right. I have still yet to nail a Gold palette, it's just hard to really get that feel.

Yeah, I have the same trouble with gold palettes, they always end up looking either too yellow or too brown.  :heheh:
DSO, your room is the sex. These are some of the better entries we've had in a while.

iRundas

The last preview of SM Instinct.

Honestly, I'd vote for like, all of these rooms, because every one of them is pretty cool. Unfortunately, this is a contest! Why do all of the awesome entries have to come in the same week?
It's hard to pick a winner for this week, but I think I'll go with DSO. That room has a really creepy, nightmare fuel vibe to it, and that's pretty awesome. Bonus points for sexy tiling.

Cloud20

IRundas for me. The incrustation of temple tiles into the green vegetal/rock background is a really good idea :D

Scyzer
Great colors and room layout. The purple goes really well with blue, though I might've make the purple a bit less red, and more blue. It still works though. The plants on the wall to the right of the huge pipe in the BG look odd though, since it's the only place they're used.

Those colours make me wish I was blind. And unless I'm totally missing the layout, it doesnt seem like you'll even see half the room in game. I like the trees up top, bt the trucks look.... weird. The plasma goo stuff pouring out of the pipes at the bottom is cool too.

Brightness not at zero: -1 point.
I feel like I've seen this tileset a hundred times, and they've all been from you or MM :P

This room is pretty unique, but there seems little point to whatever is going on in here. Looks like there's lava and water, but it looks like there's no point to them being in there at all. The GFX look good, but it'd be better for the stripey parts in the BG if they had an edge on the sides to give it some definition.

I likek the grass on the slope tiles, but that's about the only unique thing about this room IMO. Crateria room with lake BG. Everyone has does these, even vanilla SM. I like the little glowing bits on the grass though. It's a nice touch.

Charmander106

I voted for iRundas, I love what he did with the grass in this room. But all the entries this week were really good. Keep it up folks!

Quietus

iRundas for me.  It's just that sort of room where I see it, and it instantly makes me want to play the hack to run through it. :^_^:

Quote58

okay, review time.
Vismund: Good room, the colour contrast could use some work but not bad by any means. (+1 for using the best colour in existence [purple])
Fof: Idk why but this room reminds me of M2. Regardless it looks good and could fit with your previous room. The yellow is alright imo since it's with that blue, otherwise it'd be pretty blah. The bottom half of the room looks pretty nice.
DSO: No, just no. That one mushroom base tile is overused in this room (like many with that tileset) to a degree I can't look past. The tileset has been used a lot in the same way each time and at this point feels stale.
Cloud: This is a case of good in game but not so good as a picture. As a rotw room, it's pretty unappealing. I get the purpose of it, and it'll be fun in the hack, but not as a standalone room.
Rundas: I love this room. Not because its the best use of criteria, and not because of the gfx additions. What I see in this room is huge improvement. This room shows that you've come quite far since your first rotw, and it looks great. That being said rooms shouldn't be judged on improvement, but on current appeal. In that respect, it still looks really good. That's why I love this room, not only is it a sign of how much better you've gotten, but it's also a great room all on it's own. Like Quietus said it's a room that when I see it, I just really want to play the hack that it's in and see it in game. Got my vote.

snarfblam

This place was sad and empty, so I made a thing.

This room isn't anything special, but Snarfy's looked lonely.

I guess I should add that it makes slightly more sense in game. Almost as much sense as roofhoppers. Basically, room states and copy rooms and stuff like that. Hopefully you'll see by January 15th!

passarbye

figured you guys might need some company this week.

It always felt odd having slopes on the ceilings in ZM when I was tinkering with Double Helix, since I'm fairly certain they don't work properly. :^_^:

Hawntah

Hmm..

Baconface

This weird sort-of-extended submission time is confusing me. Anyways, here's a room with things in it:
