The biggest complaint I have about the laser idea being how insanely easy it would be to just take the damage and go through faster...

Designing rooms with alittle more vertical ascension would fix that.

It is a snazzy idea though. :P

The lasers will be the same as spikes, instant death. I just havent put that in yet for test playing purposes. This hack is one big obstacle course. I'll have save stations here and there, but I'm sure most will have to use savestates. It's not based on exploration at all, you just need to hit the next door, but that may not always be that easy. Occasionally there will be road splits with different paths, that way people can chose their destiny, but you'll ultimately end up in the same place.

I don't like it when people design hacks and thinks that everyone will use savestats. I'm not a very good player myself and I would love to be able to play without savestates. :(

Soooo... minihack is gonna be a deadly Grad Prix. Without the rush to the end.

Not if the consequences were just more than just damage =P. You could make it change a path to take, force you to fight a boss in the next room, etc. I'm making a laser enemy for my big hack for just 1 place at the start, which when touched completely strips you of everything. And I mean EVERYTHING!!! RAWR!!! cept 1 health...

FoF: If you're going to make moving lasers, you would need to use enemies for it (if you haven't already).
Another great thing about using enemies, is that you can make them do anything =P. Ie, if you touch the lasers, enemies can come swarming at you ZM style (yes, this IS possible, most easy with Metroid's or HZoomers, as they close in on you anyway, so their moevments are easy to predict), or you can set it up so there are more enemies in the next room or a path changes. I've done something like this for my 7 room minihack, but it is in NO WAY effective for large hacks; there's just too many variables.

I don't mind the use of savestates. I use them, but when I do something insanely easy a lot, I just don't bother. Then I make a tiny mistake, hit load state by instinct, and get set back about 10 minutes travel time.

ZSNES for regular playing because fuck yeah rewind

Charmander106

I just posted this back at Metroid2002 but I will post it here also...

I just want to show my custom graphics for my hack that I have been working since yesterday...

This is just beta and may change. But that is it for now.

personitis

Not bad. Kinda reminiscent of Crateria as a whole.

FullOfFail

Woah webber, those are sweet! I can see alot of different tiles in there. The green gives it a nice feel too, sorta like an molded ancient buried city or something. Keep up the good work and keep us updated!

Charmander106

I'm planning to work on the graphics first before level design right now, the room is just for beta testing graphics. Once graphics is complete I will move on to level design.

DSO

You will see why this is so important when I start doing actually fun stuff with it instead of just showing it off...

^ That's really neat, did you remove the invincibility after getting hit?

also here is a screen of my new tiles and their transition tiles.

The dirt tiles that are only diagonal lines could use some more detail, other then that it looks cool. :<

Damn that's crazy. You should make them move off screen so you can't escape them, but that usually causes lag with lots of enemies. Though to be honest I have no idea how many enemies are there, they move too fast!

EDIT:
Well I've just been screwing around with the BG data. Example pic of what I've done too (this is not what I want to do, I'm just messing around to figure stuff out). It seems that the BG_data pointer points to what sets up the BG. That data tells the game where to load data from, where to put it, how many bytes to load, etc. Then the actual BG is made of tilemaps (much like text and message boxes). Hopefully I hould be able to get a substantial amount of this info I find documented and up on Metconst.

A few things I wanted to point out for reasons unknown even to me:

1) You choose to use Mibbit, even though XChat is on your Desktop.
2) PURPLE MUDKIP OMFG
3) Facebook junky :P
4) You have both Internet Explorer AND Firefox on your desktop?
5) I don't understand why people put things like documents and pictures on the desktop... it seems poorly organized imho.  If I did that, there would be zero room on my desktop.

I guess I should also document on the picture you were trying to show to us. :P
You changed a few lines that got loaded? I also forgot to mention in the Christmas minihack how much I love the map tiles. :P

Scyzer

lol.

1) I don't know, or never will. I spose I'm just used to Mibbit
2) I saw a purple Mudkip while playing Platinum on emulator, but very shortly quit playing after I killed it. That pic is the only thing I have left of him ;(
3) Yep =)
4) I usually use IE, but occasionaly FireFox when IE doesn't work.
5) I just put them there if they're full of random stuff or related to something I'm working on ATM. It's just easier for me.

About the pic, I'm finding out about the BG data and what loads the backgrounds, so people would be able to create their own (glitchless) scrolling sky. I've just figured out how to fix tht scrolling sky glitch too. No patches needed, just change 1 pointer in the BG_data (the BG_data for scrolling sky doesn't actually do anything EXCEPT fix that glitch, but changing doors changes the pointers to check for, so it glitches).

Best when you're a forgetto-freak like I am. If it's not right in front of you to remind you to work on, you kind of just forget about things. The Desktop is a great temp space for all of the things you still have to look at or do things to!

I put everything on my desktop, ask kennon! :P

And purple shiny mudkip is awesome, you where lucky...
Where the fuck do you find a wild mudkip in platinum though? :<

Oh and, nice with the BG data and all... :<

Now introducing Super Smash Brothers logic into Super Metroid! First up, the axiom "Don't Get Grabbed."

You now have to break out, because he doesn't let go anymore... the number of button presses required is increased as well.

Useful for fire damage.

Got some pictures for my work in progress hack called Super Metroid: Abstract

I hope to get this to be on the list of work in progress hacks.

I absolutely love that second pic! <3

There are some other great ideas going on in those other pics, I hope you elaborate on those to make them even better! ^_^

^this.

Picture two have a lot of style/color clashing though.

While picture two have two main colors (green and blue) and kinda dim them out on each other to look good. Picture number 4 have everything in bright colors (kinda) and clash on each other. (Not to mention there are more so it's harder to make it look good.)

JamieWebb16

Thank you! I will do more of it, after soon as I get more rooms completed, then I will keep working more on the rooms! :)
