It is that time again. Try to not revert to what you are currently playing, and keep it intelligent.

So I was browsing through some thrash metal again and found love in Evile, a thrash revival band. Sadly, their bassist died some time back. He was very good.

DSO

Does anyone else listen to specific kinds of music or songs when they're doing different aspects of hacking? I mean, when I repointing/working with hex and stuff I generally listen to songs with more driving riffs and propulsion to them, as if I need the boost to get through whatever boring task I'm on, but for level design I tend to go for more melodic stuff. Sometimes I find that the songs themselves seem to dictate the way I build rooms, like subconsciously there's some link between what I'm listening to and the style of the room. I can look at rooms I built while listening to the same songs and they seem to share a lot of similar traits.

Also I tend to associate certain songs or sounds with certain hacks. Some songs I find very difficult to hack to if I'm not working on the "right" hack for that song. Other songs are universal. Each hack I have also has a "theme song", something that to me represents the hack, or perhaps the reverse, the hack represents the song to me in some subconscious way I can't understand.

So I've tried to get kiddies into Stemage in the past to no avail.
Anywho, he released a plethora of old tunes that most people haven't heard before (I have ;D)

I'll take this opportunity to link his original stuffs here:

first album: http://stemage.bandcamp.com/album/strati
misc oldstuff: http://stemage.bandcamp.com/album/misc-old-stuff

and he's got a new album coming out soon! I can't wait.

of course, Stemage also have them Metroid Metal tracks, and his Alpha Squad soundtrack:

Metroid Metal: http://www.metroidmetal.com/songs/ (no bandcamp for these? LAMECOCKS)
MM Live - Varia Suite: http://metroidmetal.bandcamp.com/album/varia-suite
MM Live - Exansion Pack: http://metroidmetal.bandcamp.com/album/expansion-pack
Alpha Squad: http://stemage.bandcamp.com/album/alpha-squad-soundtrack

For hacking, I've noticed I listen to softer music when I'm hex/asming so I can concentrate on what I'm doing better, and heavier music when I'm tiling so I can get pumped up.

Never been too big a fan of unnecessary screaming in music, but the instrumental portions are great, which the Metal genre does well in general.
I was reminded heavily of Rammstein. :D

I enjoyed FREEDOM, nuclear trance, and life story  the most of those, but they were all pretty snazzy. (except TRUTH, I didn't like that one much at all. :<)

I dabbled a bit in black, but then most wasn't really my thing. Kinda stuck in finding new music, as I don't like most softer stuff (harder forms of rock and hard rock included), mostly liking only a few songs by bands like Dead Weather, White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, and can't stand only a few aspects of harder stuff (e.g. black, death, the -cores).

Did find some cool, more unknown stuff along the way.

Haywyre ALWAYS gets me in the mood to start programming ASM and drawing graphics.

Crashtour99

Always nice to see CoC get a little recognition.  They've had some good stuff over the years.

Tool has always been fantstic, and probably my favorite band since Opiate came out (long time folks).  Their lyrics have always been pretty heady as well, for those that understand them.  As an example...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tja6_h4lT6A
Nine Inch Nails has also always been a favorite.  And since Red Monkey brought up Aphix Twin, you know you're gonna get some great stuff when these 2 get together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oguWC9tWR8Y
As to what DSO brought up earlier in the thread, I find I listen to orchestra and instrumental stuff when ASMing or hex stuff.  Lyrics floating into my head is a bit too distracting when I'm working with code.  Ya know, you'd be surprised just how amazing some of the orchestral arrangements are in a number of anime OSTs.

Homestuck are definitely worth checking out, quite a broad palette of music. You might have heard from them through MS Paint Adventures.

MetroidMst

I have a pretty wide range in musical taste. It really depends on what I want to listen to. I haven't seen any connection between my listen choices and my actual room design/hex editing. I guess I just get into a hacking frame of mind and I just play what I feel like listening to.

Generally speaking, rock and blues dominate my CD collection. I always have room to listen to some Satriani, Gilmour, and Clapton. But I'll also throw on some metal, country, and I love me some older music. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Cult, Jethro Tull, even 80s. Mix in some Pearl Jam, STP, and Collective Soul. Recently I've been struck by the song Little Red Riding Hood. I'll even throw in Acoustic Alchemy and Days of the New for some more, obviously, acoustic guitar. Joe Bonamassa is one of my newer interests. Blue Oyster Cult is another group I like. And after that I have a liking for jazz that I got from my Dad. Love the Rippingtons. I'll sometimes get into Rush. And since I mentioned Little Red Riding Hood I have to mention that I love the song Green Onions. If I feel liking biting bats I'll listen to some Ozzy.

I'm kind of all over the place in my music selection.

So I am temporarily trading my Epiphone Les Paul custom, Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw edition for a Kramer 1984/5150 hybrid. Been playing that last one for a week, and it's pretty good, although I would like to compare it to my Epi when I get that back in brand-new state.

A_red_monk_called_Key

i don't like rap, most of it drives me up the wall. i do how ever like techno, maybe its because i'm from the Nintendo generation, i don't know.

any way i came across this and i'm all about it, and i want more and have no idea were to find more rap/techno
Andy Hunter - The Wonders of You
FullOfFail

Alot of what I listen to while hacking, or playing minecraft, ect, is ambient or videogame music. Even the quote on quote "regular" music I listen to doesn't have voice-overs, such as rap instrumentals. I listen to classical too, very relaxing. Never been big on metal, as to it confuses and infuriates me. Primarily because I'm unsure why people are yelling at me, whilst my ear is right next to the headphones. I like Metal Metroid, though.
