just a thought here I like all back grounds but the yellow (I agree with quietus on the yellow just tone it down a bit) maybe you could do some ASM and put all five in. You could set it up so that as you defeat the bosses in the game the back grounds go in the order of the pictures (yellow at landing, then the purplish color, then the three blues in order from lightest first to darkest)

squishy_ichigo

Just to point out, due to atmospheric interference, you would not see the darkest parts of that brown celestial body.

Look at our moon during the day. You will not see a white/black object in the sky. You will only see the parts that are being reflected by the sun. The part that would be dark is the color of the sky.

You're welcome.

A_red_monk_called_Key

i was thinking less like our moon and more like venus

squishy_ichigo

But see, that's not a picture taken during the day, through the atmosphere....

A_red_monk_called_Key

no your right the air absorbes all colors except blue. looking throw the mass of blue air it would block out the dark parts of the moon and gas planet.  whats your take on the half cold half hot planet i would think wind storms like crazy. so the idea maybe a little off

squishy_ichigo

I'm no expert, but from what I know:

If the planet has a sufficient enough atmosphere, the air circulation of the planet would keep the entirety of the planet at pretty close temperatures. (nothing overly extreme like hundreds of degrees)

Here is a little exert I found looking for some info that might be relevant:
If the planet is able to hold onto an atmosphere and oceans at all, the twilight strip between the day and night sides will be stormy. There has to be heat exchange between the day and night sides, so the atmosphere will settle into a large-scale circulation in which cold air from the night side flows along the surface toward the day side, while warm air from the day side flows back to the night side in the upper atmosphere. On a slightly smaller scale, there will be wave structure and turbulence at the interface -- that's your weather.

The temperature contrast between day and night depends entirely on how much heat the atmosphere and ocean can transfer from one to the other. Too much contrast and you'll lose the atmosphere and ocean, because they'll end up either evaporated to space from the day side or frozen solid on the night side. The less temperature contrast you have, the harder the wind blows across the habitable strip.

It's also worth remembering that a tidally locked planet won't have a Coriolis effect strong enough to affect weather systems, so the large-scale wind flow is by pressure gradient alone. Your storms won't look like the analogous systems on Earth.

nice work, that goes with the way i have it set up now the water level is under the surface in the center of Cyrelius 337, and half of the planet is in constent darkness under the shadow of Cyrelius 336, this is were the more hardcore heat run (or ice run) will be staged. as far as Cyrelius 336 is set up, i have no idea what liquid or gas would give off a blue glow with the sun shineing through except methane but for it to be a dense liquid it would have to be cold

this is awsome i'll keep comeing up with new ideas as long as someone smells my bullshit. know there is a chozo force field or wall blocking the ice zone from the rest of the planet, which means new GFX mabe a boss, maybe the destruction of this wall will cause the ending explosion

To add to what Squishy said, it would be heavily dependent on the planet's orientation.  If it were tidally locked with the planet's rotation being the same amount of time as the planet's orbit around the star, then you could go with what Squishy said.

However if the planet were impacted sufficiently sometime in it's past so that it's rotational axis were pointed to it's star, well that's a bit of a different beast (think if earth's north pole were pointed to the sun at all times).  The polar gap in the magnetosphere at the pole facing the star would let tremendous amounts of dangerous radiation into the atmosphere, and cause some spectacular auroras.  You'd still have a Coriolis effect, with massive raging storms around the equator, and the opposite pole would likely be a huge and frigid ice cap or desert.

this is the layout of Cyrelius 337

I love how it looks like a magzine page. :^_^: Also seems to be a very lively planet.

X-tradyte

I don't know if you've noticed, but IIRC his name is Ridley, not Riddly, And it looks like, you're putting him in Tourian type area? Very nice. I'm gonna have fun with him.

Also, why would there be Metroid labs if they're only weakness is ice....unless they're like Other M Metroids...

Quietus

Weakness = Ice is irrelevant.  It's a hack, with gameplay and stories to fit.  It doesn't have to have any relevance whatsoever to the actual series of games.  If Samus isn't in this hack, why should anything else match?

A_red_monk_called_Key

im a bad speller thanks for catching that.  i put the metroid labs in the ice aera incase of metroid excape, i can't figure out why nintendo hasn't thought of that before. the warm labs keep the metroids safe and the cold keeps everyone safe from the metroids

DarkSamus: if they escape in a cold environment, their reactions would be slow and it'd allow researchers to recapture them. In other words, it's a safe way to study the Metroids.
RedMonkey: Nintendo did do this in Prime 1. Phendrana Pirate Labs had them all over the place... but it didn't do much when they broke loose. <_<

Good to see you posting a walkthrough premptively ;D
In all seriousness, though, keep some stuff for yourself.

MetroidMst

That is the best start to a hack I've ever seen.

It's better than the best.

I loved the Space pirate graphics! keep 'er up

A_red_monk_called_Key

dose any body know were the data starts for layer 1 BG on the title screen

MetroidMst

I believe you have to go into SMILE's graphics editor, export the title screen stuff fromt he drop boxes at the bottom, and then you can edit it.

A_red_monk_called_Key

thats the easy part, i lookin to change the order in which there displayed

^ this

Keep in mind though, that the tilemaps for the background (everything but the SM and nintendo logo) are in mode 7, so while you can edit the graphics, changing their layout at this time is impossible.

A_red_monk_called_Key

is the layout mixed up in $A6000 with the mode 7 graphix?
