There's no compression (usually, though this can be done, it almost always isn't [color indexing and RLE anyone?]) in BMP format. BMP is not at all optimized for hosting on the internet, it's designed for quick editing in paint/shop programs and easy conversions. PNG (portable network graphics) is a much better choice for web hosting. JPG (less applicable accronym) is also a good format for web hosting, though JPG is better suited for compression, which is a bad idea when hosting pixelated super metroid screenshots.

I'm on break from this hack right now, just trying to get some ideas for tilesets, and also for level design as well. Next update will be what I have so far for the tilesets.

I was inspired by vener with his type of level editing for crateria, here is another room:

I envy the people who can work so well with that tileset. I have never been able to use it because I just can't work with it very well.

I have made an important update to first post:

1) Updated the description, made it more fully detailed than it originally was. Also got rid of the spoiler because it really didn't need one.

2) Updated Credits Spoiler. More names will be mentioned soon.

3) Made my own Screenshot Archive for the hack + with up to date In-Game screenshots already implemented. The link to the archive is in the description, but here's the link to it anyways: Click Here!

Hello there Metroid Constructors, Here is a little more info on what direction I should take for my project so far:

There is a curtain section in the game called the Dark Zone. The first time traversing the dark zone is after beating Golmez (Torizo). I plan on making most of the GFX for the new areas with custom made to just using what was already in the game. I have made a list of ideas as to what kind of enviroments would fit together:

PENUMBRA HOLLOWS: The dark, rocky surface of Dark Cloud with water filled tunnels, down deeper into the dark caverns appear to be a ruined shrine with a dark secret...
~Sub Area= Haunted Shrine (Face Shrine tribute for Zelda's 25th Anniversary)

MARSHIRE: Large Swamplands of Dark Cloud. Awaits you is an abandoned village which leads up to a large church of the village.
~Sub Area= Sacred Hall/Forbidden Mines

MT. VULCAN: Large Volcano in the distance of Penumbra Hollows. At the edge of the mountain lies a temple, waiting to be explored!
~Sub Area= Manor of Flames (Fire Temple Tribute)

I might make some adjustments to the story so they fit into the hack more. That's pretty much it,  Please leave a comment, and hope you like where Metroid: Dark Cloud is taking it's direction! :yay:

the background looks pretty darn boring and contrasts with the forground.  Makes my eyes hurt.  I'm glad this isn't it's final state.  Other than that, I don't see any critical flaws.

Quietus

The beige parts with the yellow outline look waaay too bright in comparison with your room.  I assume you're going for a generally dark appearance, in which case they really stand out as odd.

That's a great start on the custom tiles, but there's one thing they're lacking so far.  That thing is shading.

did you guys notice he replaced the pic file in his drop-box? he updated the background to be less black. looks better now.
