BRAIN, THE PIRATE RESEARCH
STATION ON ZEBES'S SURFACE HAS
BEEN DESTROYED. AND WHILE THE
PLANET REMAINS INTACT, IT
SEEMS  AS THOUGH THERE IS NO
LONGER ANY EVIDENCE OF LIFE.
I HAVE BEEN TASKED WITH A
RETURN TRIP TO ZEBES. MY
MISSION IS TO SURVEY THE PLANET
AND SEARCH FOR ANY REMAINING
METROID LIFE. IF METROID LIFE
IS IDENTIFIED, IT IS TO BE
DESTROYED IMMEDIATELY UPON
CONTACT.
THE FEDERATION HAS DETERMINED
METROIDS TO BE OF AN

RESEARCH IS NO LONGER BEING

METROID EXISTS... IN

Journey back to planet Zebes and explore the planets new scenery and life. You are tasked with the mission of completely eradicating all metroids, after the federation had detected life forms on the planets surface. After the explosion of the planet, it seems not all living things were demolished. In fact, they know you are coming to the planet and the leader of the space pirates, Ridley, has sent his forces out to set up different locks and sealed off areas in order to keep you from entering. Breach into Zebes and stop the plans of mother brain, once again.

Steel Sparkle

Cool another new hack. Gonna check this one out.

Played about three hours of this tonight and I'm having fun. This feels a bit like a beta or something as I've run into a few things that feel incomplete. I really liked the difficulty and creativity with some of the bosses, but Kraid and Crocomire are some buggy fellas. I also skipped charge beam without realizing it until what I assume is the halfway point.

Good stuff so far, wish it was a little more polished but I'm willing to forgive it.

edit: figured I would share what I meant by the fights being buggy: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/213105329

Nice to meet you :^_^:
I am still playing ... haha
Scroll bugs and many others have been found.
I would like to repair the place I can fix and play.
"To some extent", though. . .
Could you please something by the author

スクロールバグなど色々と見つかってきました。
直せるところを直してプレイしていきたいと思います。

Just found
the Tickle (Grapple) Beam xD
I've only found a few tiling errors so far, as noted above by other users, as well as the aforementioned boss GFX glitches. I'm playing on ZSNES FuSoYa. Got a few expansions earlier than necessary by doing the 'freeze enemies over and over to get to places unreachable without gravity' trick in Maridia, and another one by doing the 'crouch jump and mid-air morph to get over crumble bridge tunnels with 2 blocks or less of space between them and the ground underneath' trick (PB in Brinstar room with 2-block high water).

I fixed bugs again :bounce: :bounce:
The attachment of this article has been updated.....

Since I am an excellent hack of ideas, I would like to play to the end while repairing it.
Well, maybe the difficulty level of Maridia was certainly high.
It is still on the PB of Brynsta, but it was fixed so I fixed it.
It is such a feeling that is caused by setting mistakes of the BTS block, is not it?
If you fix the intervals or anything else it will be OK, no problem.
I do not know yet about the tile set bug, but I cut the opening demo.
Well, now I will play live in real time! !

I beat Crocomire and got Speed Booster, and I'm not sure what I should be doing next.
I have 5 Energy Tanks, 85 Missiles, 15 Super Missiles, Charge Beam, Ice Beam, Wave Beam, Varia Suit, Morphing Ball, Bombs, Spring Ball, and Speed Booster. I can make circles throughout Norfair, and go through Black Brinstar, but I can't make the jump onto the ledge above the one pancake enemy in the one underwater room in Black Brinstar to be able to go back to an earlier area. I have run into a bunch of Power Bomb doors but no Power Bombs, and one door in a room that plays Lower Norfair music seems to be always locked (or at least boss locked). I can take an elevator up to Maridia, but the second room is permastuck as I can't climb anywhere, even with the crabs.
Thanks!

Also in bsnes (I use v080) there's lots of bugs involving Norfair door connections — the room before Crocomire is offset horizontally and going back out through the door that you came in from the first time will corrupt other doors a la X-Ray Climb, and another door in another room is effectively one-way as going to the left will cause the game to load invalid level data. And I'm pretty sure you have a PLM indexing error in the U-shaped room with the airplane platform thing, as after I got some items I came back and the item in the lava was gone.

b_a_c_k__f_i_r_e

I cleared it safely, but I am not looking for items all over.
Indexes of important items are not duplicated, so we have not confirmed so far.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback, I am glad you guys are enjoying my romhack. Yes there are some bugs and such, life has been a little hectic lately, so I was not able to complete the hack the way I intended to. I apologize.

Back fire, if you have made improvements to the I will be sure to check them out and update my ips with your. Thanks! :)

PHOSPHOTiDYL

Do you have a version number?? Maybe total item count??
Not that far in yet, definitely a hack I want on the playlist.

I think my favorite part so far are the hidden passages.
There's minor bugz, nothing game breaking, I'm not complaining.

andlabs

I'm still lost; what am I supposed to do next given the scenario I listed above?

What did you fix, out of curiosity?

Should I have found charge beam before Kraid?   I use all my missiles and he isn't dead.   His projectiles don't generate the little things that drop refills.   I either need charge or to find more missiles or I'm stuck.   I have 50 missiles and 10 supers so I'm pretty well-armed.   His color changes to a darker red but I don't know how close I am to finishing him off.   I have a save nearby so it's no problem.

Edit:  Turns out with a little better strategy and ammo use I had plenty enough to take him down.  I'm back on my way.

Edit2:   Good golly is Croc on steroids in this thing.   This may take awhile.

Bugs in Norfair aside overall I'm impressed by this and I'm surprised it isn't getting more attention.

DonnyDonovan

So I beat croc and I'm basically stuck in the same place as andlabs.   Although I never found spring ball.   Are you sure if you froze the pancake enemy in the perfect spot that a perfect spring jump wouldn't get you up?

And you can in fact get past the crab room but I couldn't get past the next room after that.

This hack absolutely oozes potential if it were polished up a bit more.  I'd love to find the way and keep exploring if I could.

andlabs

Spring Ball is to the left of that pancake. I can't seem to find anything else in that alcove.

And if a perfect jump can get me up there, I haven't been able to pull it off, and I hope it's not beyond my capabilities to pull off... (and yet I am playing the original Cliffhanger right now, too)

After 10 minutes worth of attempts I was finally able to correctly time a spring jump off the frozen pancake from it's up-and-left position and got onto the upper platform.   From there I was able to get partially up the shaft through use of a gravity jump.  But then I still reached a jump I couldn't make.   I honestly think high jump boots must be hidden in Norfair somewhere.  With high jump boots one could get back out without too much fuss.  On these jumps I'm crouch jumping and even morphing right at the end but still can't get quite enough height.  I fall just short.   High jump or power bombs and the world would be my oyster but as it stands we're still stuck in the same place.

Edit:  With a series of incredibly perfect and annoying crouch jumps where you point down at just the right time while in mid-air you can climb the shaft.   Not fun but doable.  I'm out.

Clues in order of obviousness! :study:
You guys need to take the elevator above the red pirates in black Brinstar, and head into Maridia.

You need to reach the top of the room full of crabs.

You can run from the left of the ramp, charge a spark underwater, head back slightly to the left, then spark upward. Make sure you land on one of the square platforms.
Bonus spoiler:
Prepare for a fight.
Bonus 2, 'cause I'm generous!
When you get back to black Brinstar, head up first. It'll save a lot of backtracking.
andlabs

I genuinely did not expect that to work underwater wow thanks Quietus! :D Is this a property of vanilla physics or a modification?

DonnyDonovan

Am I just supposed to go to the next room and then figure out a way up the sandfall?   Or am I missing something?

Edit:  Never mind.

I believe it's a modification. The vanilla game will allow you to keep your speed / momentum when entering water, but you can't accelerate without the Gravity Suit.

I think the next major powerup I'm seeking is grapple.   Hint as to where I should be looking?   I've used my other new toys everywhere I can find and I'm coming up empty.

Edit:   I really need to quit asking for help.   Found it.

Quietus

...and completed with 80%.

All in all, a fun hack. I'd recommend people giving it a go. It's a mixed bag, with early areas (particularly Crateria) giving off a 'my first hack' feel, yet looking completely new for 90% of the hack. There are some elements of lesser tricks, such as mockballing and short charging, but nothing major. Enemy palette changes are mostly welcome, with nothing really eye gouging, and tiles are mostly OK, but there are masses of tiles not set correctly for use with X-Ray, which makes scanning for secrets really ugly.

Oh, and despite Leodox tring to help the map with lettered connections, the map is still often FUBAR, so don't rely on it too much. :^_^:

DonnyDonovan

I've reached a green gate in LN and can't advance.   Above it appears to be the trigger.   I've shot it with supers from every possible angle and nothing happens.

Quietus

If you're where I think you are, you can:
Power bomb the ceiling to access a small area with the switch.
DonnyDonovan

Yup.   That's what I did.   And then I shoot the thing every possible way and it doesn't open the gate.   I'm using ZSNES.

Quietus

I can only suggest to try some obvious things like exiting and reentering to reload the room. I played on ZSNES too, and had no issues with it.

Are you in the entrance room to Lower Norfair, or are you talking about:
The switch behind Screw Attack, with no gate?
If the latter, then:
It opens one of the doors to the right of Lower Norfair's entrance, which was grey before, and you may have already accidentally shot it with your beam, which I believe it also reacts to.
