Here's what I got. I made sure the format the green text as it would look in SMILE's box and in-game. Some ASM will be needed to use parts of the intro for the game's ending (after 100% items are collected).  I haven't written anything down on them yet, but I would like single screens of green text to be able to cue after entering certain doors. I'm thinking it will happen once and only once whenever Samus enters a new area for the first time. More on that later, I guess. Feedback time.

me and Grime decided in irc that the planet to be explored this time around will be none other than Twin Tabula!

    Canon planet exploration ftw?

edit: for those not in the knows of said planet:

Let's hope Samus doesn't somehow come down with "Twin Fever" if that is the setting.

I'm not sure I like the phazon idea... sure it's well know but... it's not very original. That's really the only complaint I have... story is not a big thing in metroid for me.

so... how many pages of this are there?

Yeah, I know the idea of Phazon in itself isn't all that original. Several hacks have worked with the idea in the past, but I think with all the effort going into this hack and from a number of different people, we can pull it off and attain the same kind of tense atmosphere that Prime was able to deliver in some parts. Just to clarify, Phazon will only play a small role in the hack, being confined to the areas in which it's mentioned. Something Samus stumbles onto en route to hunting Ridley down. It's not a focal point of the story, but more of a nod to the Prime games and Phazon concept itself.

The way I see it, Phazon isn't even being used for evil purposes in this world as it has been in the past by space pirates or anything. It just happens to infest a small part of the world and some of the enemies nearby.

If we're sticking with the idea that not even space pirates want to touch Twin Tabula because of the disease there, their graphics and sounds could be altered to resemble a new type of enemy. For the sake of simplicity, we're going to assume that Varia mostly protects against the twin fever. However, twin fever could be the cause of health drain in the "dark world" area and not Phazon, to even further lessen its impact on the game storyline.

I could take care of the graphics part.  I had the idea of turning the pirates into elves for the x-mas hack but I didn't have enough time (and I still wanna see what I could turn em into, but I actually need space pirates for my hack).

You could always use JAM's Message box plm to announce just what it is that's hurting you in the room.  ;)   Something like "Warning: Biohazard Area".

I've never seen this message box PLM before, but that sounds nice. Would it be able to be used for more than one purpose? Like, in addition to the "Biohazard warning" area, could it be use elsewhere in the hack to deliver other quick messages to the player?

    Yep.   Grin!

From the notes that came with the patch:
Place PLM F2C3 to the room. When you touch it, the message will be displayed.
Set ID of message with low byte. To add new messages, use message patch by Kej. First new ID is 1D.
To display message when you just enter the room, use continuation PLM (red arrows) to expand area where messanger can be touched.

I apologize for essentially necro-ing a topic, but I only just took the time to re-read this part of the forum and something popped into my head.

If you're using Phazon in the story, I would assume this happens between Prime and Prime 3? Because keep the end of Prime 3 in mind. Namely because
    (click to show/hide)
At least that's what we're left to believe. I suppose we can take it with a grain of salt, but still.

Again, sorry for necro-ing a topic but I thought it'd be something to input if it hasn't already been considered (knowing my luck I'm probably at least a month too late).

    Not a problem, Melany.

Given the kind of items that will in the game, and yeah, the (small) presence of Phazon, taking place sometime between Prime and Prime 3 makes sense enough. For those deeply familiar with Metroid's storylines (which I am not, beyond the most broad strokes), where do you feel timeline-wise that this game would best take place, exactly? Never hurts to establish small details like this before the actual development begins.

Well given that in the original post you mention a P.E.D. at all would most likely suggest that Samus has used the PED Suit which was used
    (click to show/hide)
Though, with Phazon ending up how it did the PED Suit would be useless, as would any devices.

However I suppose if we took the ending with a grain of salt, it'd have to be after Prime 3 because that's the only time there is any mention of a PED Suit.

Well, it could be an "alternate universe" sort of thing, or else just a mental simulation running through her mind... maybe a dream?

Agreed.  This doesn't have to fit in anywhere.  No other hack does, and I don't see that this has to be any different.  It's just another telling of the Super story / game.

That is true, a hack doesn't have to fit into the time line. However, if the person in charge of a hack's story wants the hack to fit into the time line for whatever reason, it's a good idea to think things over and see where you could possibly squeeze things in.

So I suppose my first question should have been, "Are you going to act within the bounds of established canon or is this just simply something that's there?"

I hope the last part of the question makes sense...

Well, it could be an "alternate universe" sort of thing
that would work great. Prime Hunters, anyone?

In Metroid, Samus, X, Samus always wins because Samus beats Metroids, who wont attack (Fusion) Samus, who is (Regular) Samus, but eats X.
