Room of the Week
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:59:07 AM »

Room of the Week (RotW) is a weekly competition where you submit a screenshot of a room you are working on, to compete with rooms made by others. At the end of the year, we have a Room of Year (RotY) competition, where the best of the years winners are nominated to compete against one another.

This is one of many ways to showcase your WIP hacks and get constructive criticism. Not to mention it's fun! You may submit any 2D Metroid related screenshots here as long as you follow the rules.

Archives

This topic is cleaned out at the end of each week segment and archived for your convenience. The first post of the ROTW archives have links to each weeks start and winners.

ROTW 2010 | ROTY 2010 | ROTW 2011 | ROTY 2011 | ROTW 2012

Schedule

WEEKDAYS: Monday - Friday: This is the voting period. You may leave constructive criticism based on how you feel the rooms look.
WEEKENDS: Saturday - Sunday: This is the submitting period. You may only submit screenshots during this period unless otherwise noted.

Rules
  • One Per Person - Only one screenshot may be submitted each week per contestant.  If it is a collaboration room, please state as such upon your submission. It will count towards the submission limit for both people. If a user posts a room for another contestant, he may still submit a room of his own.
  • Format - Submit editor screenshots of the room, not in-game screenshots. PNG format is preferred (please convert .bmp files). To use SMILE's screenshot feature select File→Special→Level to Bitmap. Submitting rooms with BTS and scrollscreens showing is discouraged. Use F3 to toggle BTS, and View→Options→Show Scroll Areas to toggle scrollscreens.
  • Modifications - Making modifications to a screenshot before submitting it is strongly discouraged. Cropping the image is acceptable for the purpose of removing blank areas or areas that can never be seen in-game. Images may not be modified in any way once voting has started.
  • Previous Works - Screenshots may not be submitted from 'Released' hacks, only 'Work in Progress' hacks. If you have submitted a screenshot for a previous ROTW, you may not submit this same room again without further changes to the room.
Those who do not follow these rules are may not be allowed to compete in the future.

[Week Nineteen: 5/12/2012 - 5/18/2012]

Four rooms enter. Only one can win.

I enjoyed Jamie's room until I saw the part I circled, then I decided I'm not voting again this week.

Are you bothered because the corners of the bricks are too square and regular? I can't say I understand what the problem is.

To me, that section gives more of a three dimensional effect than anything: the light source is behind the bricks, so the bricks block the light.
