Super Metroid: Reimagined

Author: SavageWizzrobe

Difficulty Level: Veteran

Category: Full, Exploration Hack

Description: A hack I started working on in 2013 while messing around with SMILE. This hack is a balance of being authentic to the look and feel of the original, but with a new world map, new item progression, some custom code, and other, smaller changes.
Difficulty-wise, Reimagined is a bit harder than the original mainly because of running through a couple heated rooms without Varia (or doing wall jumps to skip this section), and navigating part of Maridia without Gravity. Some basic walljumping, bomb jumping, is required, and Shinesparking is required for 100%. Infinite bomb jumping, mockball, and short charging aren't required. If you've beaten the original with 100% at least once, Reimagined should be doable without savestates.

Omg it took me 10 minutes to find the damn morph ball. Then I wasted a missile and couldn't open the next door. I tried to suicide in the spike pit. Wrong way lol.

Vismund Cygnus

Looks really good dude, it's really hard to nail that vanilla style without things looking bland, but it seems like you've done a really good job. I'll be sure to give this one a crack tomorrow on stream when I'm not busy.  :^_^:
In the meantime, be sure to submit it to the new site for everyone to see!

Lady Aran

This looks promising! I'll definitely have to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing it with us :)

I'm going to keep looking around but I'm wondering if I'm stuck. I'm down in Brinstar after fighting Spore Spawn and I can't seem to find the way out of this small area. The only door out I've seen has a Super Missile hatch on it.  I have Morph Ball, Missiles and Charge Beam. I do NOT have Bombs, which I have a feeling is my main problem. I didn't thoroughly explore Crateria after getting Missiles and I worry I missed grabbing Bombs before this point. Am I stuck?

On the positive side, the hack does feel really good to play so far and I'm enjoying what you've made.

edit: Of course, as soon as I post this I did discover a new path I hadn't found before. I'll explore there for a while first. I might not be stuck after all.

edit 2: Found the way out, just needed to be more observant in places I didn't expect to be. Nicely done.

Steel Sparkle

Looks pretty nice. It looks like it's getting postive responses so far. I may check this out at some point. Nice job.

Been waiting for a good hack to come along for a long while. This certainly doesn't disappoint. Got a fair share of pleasant surprises, such as stumbling upon the Morph Ball, and finding the Spring Ball early on. Nintendo should've done this for the vanilla Super Metroid instead of sticking it in an out-of-the-way area of Maridia so late in the game. The way the items are switched around seems to be really well-done so far.

As of now, beaten Kraid, so I've got Morph Ball, Spring Ball, Bombs, Missiles, Charge Beam, and Hi-Jump Boots. Hopefully I'll be able to find some Super Missiles before Norfair. Loving how exploration-heavy this hack is, so keep up the good work!

Been a while since I played a hack, may give it a go. Need something to take my mind off my real life issues the past few months

Been playing this all day, amazing full hack so far this is some top 10 tier stuff.
Very polished and tested too, you knew what you were doing and how to spring its release unexpected.
Thanks for this!

Edit: 7:27 / 90% (accidentally saved the animals, went in the wrong direction lol)

Fantastic hack with no faults to it. Pretty big planet too, I loved the heavy exploration and spacing of items.
Slap a 're-imagined' on the title screen and this ones ready to cart. 8/10

Im not done yet, but i have to say that this hack is fucking amazing i love the vanilla feel and look it has! I will write again once i finished. Great stuff thank you for making this!

VeryMasterNinja

In the description, it says the player is supposed to run through a couple heated rooms w/o Varia. It seems as though with some well placed wall jumps you can get Varia early.

Quietus

Many hacks are like that, as is the original. Sequence breaking is what adds all the flavour to speedrunning. :yay:

The wonders of sequence breaking, be it intentional or not.
Finished this a few hours ago with an IGT of 5:30 something and 84%.
I will get around to reviewing the hack once it's on the main site, but for now:
tl;dr reimagined > redesign (axiel)

I've finished this hack as well.
I'm...idk it was an okay hack imo, a lot of exploring but those open wide rooms were kinda..empty. It felt weird.
I mean sure I had my fun but it was mixed with some moments where I thought "this isn't a good design".
Also: How the hell are you supposed to find Grapple with that kind of a weird spot. I mean sure the map KIND OF hints it..but still it's ..meh.
2nd: 1st Powerbombs force you to have underwater jump+midair morphball jump? That's how I got into that part. Otherwise I'm clueless.
3rd: I never found plasma beam, is it in LN?
I did. It was just not as natural to to check that. And I'm not the only one who had an issue with it. So idk, I rather found it by coincidence rather than searching that part specifically.

Great hack! 12:59 and 85%
Love how there's a backdoor to Tourian, as if giving you a chance to look for the rest of the items right before Mother Brain.
Gonna wait until Danidub gets a map done for this hack, gonna have fun hunting for the remaining 15%.

Retroo

Just finished this, its a great hack one of the best i ever played. In my top 3 list for sure.

SacredHooves

I am waiting for the official posting on the Hacks thread before I drop my thoughts: but atm I can for sure say its worth your time and effort to play.
Completed in 5:35 IGT and 70%

Sorry for doublepost.
Spazer.    Its located in the big room right to the ship room. Its high up in the room to the left of some power bomb blocks, you dont need power bomb to get spazer do.
