I wasn't going to do one this week. Then I did. As you can probably tell, it's related to my last one. It's hard to see with the tiles I'm using, but there are breakable blocks in the bottom of the center screen.

First time I've ever messed with the norfair tileset

Quietus

That staircase is pretty cool, but its effect is negated by the giant phallus. :heheh:

MetroidMst

I would take all of the Ridley tiles out of that room. The rest of the room looks great, it is just the Ridley stuff looks kind of like junk thrown in just to use them. No offense of course, they just don't look good.

Hot off the frying pan, don't burn yourself kiddies! >:D

Kraid's Room for Project Base.

Quietus

I liked the look of JamieWebb's, with its new tiles and all, but it was just too cluttered for me, so my vote went to Squishy.

JamieWebb16

That's okay, because I also voted for squishy!

snarfblam

I love Grime's earthy ground with the bricky background, but the vines I'm not too keen on. FoF, I'm sure you've heard enough comments about your phallic room decorations. I think squishy's is the best though. Very well executed.

Lunaria

Snarfblam: Great looking both in terms of look and how I think gameplay will be. It's simple, it's easy, it's fun, and that's all it needs to be. But on top of it, it also looks great! It sure as hell gets my vote this week!

Squishy: When I first saw the room I thought it was awesome. (And I thought it was draygons room before you said it was kraids. <_< >_>) But... when I saw it in action and looking back over it. It's not very practical. I like the general idea of the room, but it just seams a bit to hard to hit kraid, and almost impossible without wavebeam. Just moving/removing one or two tile(s) on the edge of that thing would remove that problem. Hell, you made it and you had problem to hit him from there in the video! :P
And for the recording hitting him then forced falling down in spikes = bad. And it's almost at that level. And last time I checked, you're hack was not aimed to be that hard.

Shadox: Room could use a lot more variation in with the stone tiles in the middle. It just looks very plain as it is right now.

Rest of the rooms felt where "meh" to me.

Alright time to comment on each room.

Grime - I love this tileset because it's metroid-y yet it's so unique at the same time. The thing I like about this room in particular is how you mixed space tile in with the natural rooms. Just showing the pic alone doesnt do this room justice, I remember playing it, it's fun to navigate also. Alot of aesthetic value here.

JamieWeb - I was going to vote for this room, but there really isn't much to it as far as practical use goes. I like rooms that look usable. As far as graphics goes this is A-1.

Shadox - It looks fun to navigate through, but the yellow blocks just look out of place. They stand out too much I think. I think this room would look better more natural looking with the regular crateria slope tiles. I'm a fan of the greener grass.

Snarfblam - Wow man you seriously got me want to play the NES metroid now! This is state of the art graphics. The purple blocks in the middle look sorta out of place to me though. Keep up the good work.

FullOfFail - I'm glad Digital Mantra noticed what I was trying to convey. That's the secong time someone mentioned that I should remove the serpent, so consider it done. I have a more specific area for it anyway.

Squishy - I don't really have a problem with the design of the room, but I agree with Crys that it's akward to only use the wave beam to him. I completely understand the meaning behind it, but I just think there's other ways to do it.

squishy_ichigo

@ Crys:  Ok... there are no spikes at the bottom.  That should have been obvious from me walking down there at the beginning of the video. And the fight is SUPPOSED to be harder.  Thats the point.

Lunaria

Oh yeah, I forgot there where no spikes. ^^;

begrimed

I'm gonna give my vote to snarfblam, on the basis that I've never seen NESTroid looking so damn good. Can't wait to play the finished hack when it's done. I'll have to slide it my brother's way too, since he's a fan of the classic.

RealRed

snarfblam, I swear. your work is the best. it just seems so... different. Every metroid hack I've seen was more or less the same, but you do such a good job to make the original seem like something new.

i'm on the fence between Grime, squishy, and snarfblam... but i'm leaning towards Grime atm...
ok, im voting for snarfblam because of the super  metroid styled doors.
interesting use of the item ball tile however. it'd be fun to see that in a hack
maybe i'll try to get a room for next week done... and maybe it wont suck like crap.

personitis

Grime has it this week for me. Snafblam with that NEStroid sexiness comes second. And the bronze goes to squishy.

FoF, this is not a place for such media my friend. ;P
Shadox: detail would make the room look decent. But the level design is still plain and kinda simple.
Jamie: I like it, but will it show in a hack? Don't get me wrong though, not bad.

Digital_Mantra

My vote goes to FullofFail. So many intriguing ideas. Though I suggest the whole staircase thing be put in another room. Each room should have it's own theme, not a scrapyard of ideas. Regardless, I love what you did. The dick tongue statue was awesome too, very Giger.

Grime my man, I would have voted you for your lush alien style, but FoF's staircase using basic norfair tiles took me by surprise. It's amazing there's still new ways to conceptualize the original tiles.

Honorable mention goes to JamieWebb16 for the sick tileset. I'd love to have some fun with it someday.

JamieWebb16

Thank you, but the one who actually did the graphics for me was Webber1900, he did the graphics, I done the room design, but thank you though.

Black Falcon

My vote goes to Squishy, because it gives a really dark feeling!
I personally like the glowing plant thingy stuff in bg  :awesome:
Also recognized that you're using three different stone palettes.
(though there only seem to be two palettes at first glance)

Phazar

My vote also goes to squishy.  That's a cool, eerie feeling you get by that room.  Second place goes to Jamiewebb, whose room was amazing, but I would rather see it in action.
