quick and gritty

jamie: love the corner pipes, otherwise it feels very lacking to me
shad: it probably looks better in game, hurts me eyes
monk: love the layering, voted for you
pass: too much contrast, with the black bg, and the bright foreground

ya, I forgot to include a video the background in game.
so here,

Zhs2

Somehow, I don't think the video speaks very many wonders about your room design as your actual submission does. My favorite part is the grapple-able stalactites; it makes me think of Aladdin for the SNES.

1-awesome doors
2-nice stalagmite work
3-these look cool but don't blend well with black out filler they should be
4-simular to how these blend
5-seems blank

1-seems like its missing something
2-the transition between these two BGs is a bit confusing
3-i like the way you use these tiles
4-not bad
5-looks incredible
6-?
inspired by this room i'm going to make a 16 color ground tile set that does something like this

Quoted for honesty. Bubbles.

In all seriousness... The overall amount of these rooms is rather... Bland and not very inspiring. Jamie's room is a good go-between room. Nothing spectacular, but it also won't detract from the player rushing through it. Shadow's room is a bit of mangled metal mixed with things and oddisms. Passarbye's room has a rad tomb in it. And Monkey dude has bubbles, and a very good mix between layers. So yeah, bubbles = win, remember that folks.

Edit 4:
The quality for the second room I entered wasn't great, so I switched back to the original. The vid remains. Shows both rooms anyway.

Well. I'm entering a collaboration room, between myself and Cloud12. He did the bottom and the BG while I did the top half.
Enjoy.

There's still much to be done with the ground tiles, but the filler is better integrated into the ground at least, so that's good.

Edit: and a video
Underwater ruins large room

Quietus

Shadow for me.  I liked the room anyway, but I also wasn't really keen on anything else this week.

Cloud20

Hum, I'm not the kind of person annoying, but when a room is collab like the work we made with Wildfire, it should be very appreciated to redefine it on the contest. However congratulations for the other contesters for their rooms.

Have a good day :)

Zhs2

Few quick edits fixes that. Apologies for my missing it in the first place.

Thanks Zhs2, it's very kind  :yay:

Zero One

Rather close for me this week.
A decent looking room, but that's about it. It doesn't have any sort of special elements that pop out at you.

Another good looking room. The layering is used to great effect, but the tileset is just too saturated for me.

You two clearly work well together. The room doesn't look like it was made by two people because you both know how the room should be. You get my vote.

A nice room, with some good custom GFX, but there's nothing that really stands out to me.

Barring 4 obvious tile errors, a very nice room. Nothing bad here.
Quote58

alrighty then. short reviews this week.

FullofWin
cool palette, interesting tiles, nothing bad to say really.
passimbye
bad palette, nice ruins tiles, not great in all.
DS and Cloud9
I like clouds portion more than DS, but the room on the whole looks great. As 01 said, you two work well together as the style is consistent throughout. The palette needs to be smoothed out though, as do most of the gfx.
Metaman
Awesome new gfx, but nothing special about the room.
Wavery
I have nothing more to say about this tileset. but in terms of the room, the top left is bad, but the bottom right is awesome.
Qactis

I like everyone's rooms this week. I would have voted passarbye but I can't stand that blindingly bright palette. I didn't like it last week, and I don't like it this week. Wildfire and DS get my vote. Extremely solid room with a great background and good tiling (sans the overused mutated chozo statues, which aren't enough to distract my vote).

Lol, What? Don't you mean cloud12?  :heheh:

Quietus

It could be serious.  Send Qactis to Darkholme for some tests...

Hum... not cruel enough for him  just kidding

begrimed

Metaquarius for me, hands down. That is the best looking Tourian I've ever seen.
