If you can take vanilla resources and make something that outshines a similar work using custom/altered resources, then that only speaks to the quality of your vanilla work.

Webber shows us that he doesn't need to draw new tiles or mix and match vanilla tiles from different sets (or even change the palette, for that matter) to make a sweet-looking room.

Staying true to my signature, it's not about which room is superior, though. It's about which room is most impressive. In spite of this, and for the reasons mentioned above, Webber gets my vote this week.

^ Totally agreed!

Reason: Room of the Year 2010

Without the intention to praise myself, this is the best example of how impressive a room can be with the good ol' vanilla tiles.
It's an honor for me that my room has made it this far, thanks to you, the Metconst community!

Vote goes to Webber.
Enough said.

ProjectXVIII

Pfft, it was obviously your custom doors that made that room brilliant.

I like how everyone is like "you don't need custom tiles to have awesome hacks! Vanilla tiles wooooo!", vote for Webber, and he totally has Green Brinstar slopes. Not to mention the Wreaked Ship tiles from Crateria.

Silver Skree

Well, it's more vanilla than any of the other rooms by comparison. You are right though; I failed to notice those.

I still hold (most of) my points. :>_>:

FullOfFail

There's nothing wrong with Vanilla tiles, but it does require a bit more innovation, and/or extreme attention to detail to make things impressive. Whereas custom tilesets automatically have that new and exotic feel. But, like BF mentioned, and as history has shown, a vanilla/remixed tileset can easily win against a custom one, given the right designer. I don't think there is anybody here shallow enough to judge a room based on one criteria alone. Even judging strictly based on tile appearance, there's many things to consider.

Quietus

I didn't even notice the slopes until after reading about them, but that's because I've created them myself when doing all of the Crateria ones, so I'm used to seeing them.

Fe

Voted for Grime, lovin' the Norfair bubbles in Crateria. I agree with you guys though, in that you don't need custom tiles for good hacks. But Grime, by the looks of it, simply changed some palletes and did some tileset mixing. And, if rooms are made equally well, but one uses pretty custom tiles and the other uses vanilla, which do you choose?

BTW, I feel sorry for you guys, Crys and DS. Looks like this is (mostly) a 1-on-1 match.

I hope it's decent....ish

Two immediate things spring to mind:

1, You've used the darker, background tiles in the bottom left-hand corner, and once on the right, but they seem like a 'for the sake of it' offering, and don't really look like they had the same, random-shaped love that you gave the rest of the room's tiling.
2, The two walls at the top of the room suffer fron very monotonous shaping / tiling, and should be made more random, like the rest of the room.

Fe

Also, it looks like you did some copy-pasting with the slopes in the left-center part of the room. Just a minor gripe, but you could add a little more variation to those slopes. Other than that, it's lookin' good  :^_^:

X-tradyte

I didn't do any copying in this room. Sorry, try again,  :^_^: I know there ARE errors in the room, but I'm too lazy to fix them right now.

Fe

I just meant it looked like you copy-pasted. Those three slopes are all exactly the same.

gunnargumpert

You finaly got your 2 Balls back. I was not on this forum for almost 1.5 month's and I see this? Looks delicious!

Well, if you edit the small part, that looks like just a copy'n paste, I might vote for you, cause it looks cool! I love Tileset 1.  :^_^:

Congratulations Dark samus! Your room is Better than Browning history .

Zhs2

Oh, come on, guys. This is weak. Where's all the rooms!

Silver Skree

S'pose I'll put up a challenge then.

I was going to post a room, but now i'm not going to. Considering how good the Competitors rooms are, I would stand No chance. So instead of posting my room this week, I will simply be posting it next week.

:D!:

But damn skree Your room is just 100% pure sex.

Quietus

I liked both rooms.  I love Skree's use of colour in almost all rooms I've seen.  Ultimately, however, I voted for Skree due to Darksamus's admitted laziness in not fixing his room, despite simple alterations or fixes being available.

DS: You've come a long way, and it's frustrating to see you have these slips every now and again. :stern:

X-tradyte

Well, there's still 'til Friday at 11:59, and it's 50-50, I still have a chance even without you vote....but it would've been nice to have it...

* DarkSamus is regretting not fixing his room

Fe

Lol, 50-50 vote. Voted for Skree. @Quietus: I concur.

DS, it seems like there is always a small, easy to fix issue with the rooms you submit. Details definitely count (especially in a contest).

Skree, you've got some serious saturation going on there.

Lol, 50-50 vote.
DarkSamus  5 (50%)
Silver Skree 5 (50%)

looks like it still is...

(fail @custom poll bar)

snarf: Yeah, I could've done that, but oh well. There's still time to win... :>
